ST. PAUL, Minn. (FOX 9) - The only person charged for tearing down the Christopher Columbus statue at the Minnesota State Capitol in June is getting 100 hours of community service and will avoid trial under a deal struck with prosecutors.
Mike Forcia, an organizer with the American Indian Movement, will have his felony charge of first-degree criminal damage to property suspended. Under terms of the deal, Forcia will write a letter acknowledging the damage the Columbus statue toppling caused and must remain law abiding.

what about paying for it!
if the law doesn’t act perhaps citizens will...vigilante justice.....we don’t want that, but some will start taking the law into their own hands...
These judges are seriously misjudging the public here.
This IS NOT justice.
If member of the Tea Party did this they would have been sentenced to ten years.
Doing “community service” with a rep as a “bad boy” will get him a hot new girlfriend (win-win baby).
What’s the remedy for this?
************
Look to the Founding Fathers. They knew what to do in the face of tyranny and injustice.
I would guess replacing that statue could cost up to a million dollars? Who’s paying for that?
La Cosa Nostra will take care of this, capiche?
Yep. He may even run into another low-life out there on his
crew and have more little low-lifers running around in a few
years.
We mock their history and go to jail.
They mock our history and it’s “social justice” and excused.
Correct! And when people get fed up, they are forced to turn to Vigilante Justice, which usually isn't pretty.
In a just world that seems appropriate.../s
I don’t think these judges realize part of the reason they
are there. They are there to alleviate the need for vigilante
justice.
They are short-circuiting the judicial system, and doing
exactly what you have outlined.
What a dumbass statement. THEY TORE DOWN THE STATUE, YOU IDIOT!
Seems like they should have at least put him on a pedestal and pushed him off.....
Columbus never set foot in North America, with the possible exception of the Yucatán. We should be celebrating Henry Hudson instead. Columbus Day was a sop to Catholic voters by the Democratic Party in an archaic form of “inclusiveness.” Why are we celebrating the Spanish Empire?
It’s amazing how many of my fellow “Amurcans” fail to realize that Columbus sailed for Spain, never set foot in what became the 50 states, and was a criminal per the Spanish crown.
I would be all for making a statue out of this person, visible from the highest point in the city.
Then tying a rope around his stinking neck, and dragging him to the ground from that high perch.
