Holiday movies are a time-honored tradition, and this season could signal that queer couples are finally getting a seat at the table.
Hulu and the Hallmark Channel have both released holiday films that feature LGBTQ couples in the main storyline. And there are at least seven new movies this month that have some sort of representation as well.
"Compared to previous years, and the amount of LGBTQ-inclusive films that are out, it's like night and day," GLAAD's CEO and president, Sarah Kate Ellis told CNN. "We've really gone from zero to 100."
"Hollywood understands that the business model works, and this gave them an enormous opportunity," Ellis told CNN.
This year saw the highest percentage of LGBTQ characters on our TV and film screens since GLAAD started tracking those numbers more than 20 years ago.
And the holidays won't disappoint.
"The Christmas House" and Hulu's "Happiest Season both feature LGBTQ couples in the main storyline. And other newly released films featuring LGBTQ characters in lead or supporting roles, such as Lifetime's "The Christmas Setup," Paramount Network's "Dashing in December," Netflix's "Dash and Lily" (actually an eight-episode show), Amazon Prime's "Friendsgiving" and Tello's "I Hate New Year's."
The numbers overall are still paltry.
Of an estimated 879 regular characters on broadcast scripted prime-time programming, only about 10% -- 90 characters total -- are explictly LGBTQ.

1.8% of the population shows up as 10% of the characters.
Imagine that.
CNN is so happy that they’re almost ready to have a group orgy in melted marshmallows.
If anything they're over-represented.
Gives new meaning to “ don we now our GAY apparel”
Of course, it’s 2020. One disaster after another.
Though you’d swear that half the country is homo/lesbo by what we’re beginning to see in media. But that’s the narrative they’re trying to drive.
Here are two from the last couple of years that don’t have a hint of LGBTQWRXYZ BS.
The Christmas Chronicles

Pottersville

Sick.
One word on their intent - NORMALIZATION.
If an outer space alien monitored our commercial advertisements, it would conclude that the black population of the U.S. is near 75%.
The poor children. God is taking names.
One of the funniest cartoons I have ever seen!
Was in a Christmas Playboy mag about 40 years ago!
Fairy/queer guy dancing/floating around while donning his “gay” apparel.
Was NOT a pro-homosexual cartoon!
Too soon for that! Culture not quite ready in 1980!
“1.8% of the population shows up as 10% of the characters.”
I suspect that even 1.8 percent is a tad high for the overall population. Long ago, the “of color” group exceeded their representation on TV and movies. As well as that, white men are often portrayed as idiots or submissive to their “of color” co-actors.
I stopped watching the news before the Ojay trial ended. Haven’t seen any news since then. Stopped watching TV episodes when it seemed that liberal politics was everywhere, so, call it twenty plus years ago. Haven’t seen a movie in the theater since about 2012. Pretty much, I am down to cat videos and Freerepublic.com. Know what? I don’t feel I’ve missed a thing. (Oh, discovered this marvelous thing called “books.” Awesome!)
Or fruitcake...
Notice how many TV ads are gay and oreo couples.
Subliminal crap to the max, kids dont see it up front but it gets absorbed as normal which it is not.
Every video entertainment product released in the last year
or so has evidence of gaming the race or gender quotient of
the players.
It’s not just lead roles either. Players on down the line in
quantity of air-time in the movie, are people clearly put
there to correct the perception (in Leftist’s minds) of “past
inequities”.
There has to be a homosexual couple. There has to be
something like 50% (or more) of the players who are Black.
Never mind that 65% of the nation is still White, the 13%
deserves equal time. Reverse racism? Heretic!
There’s also a troubling trend so show biracial couples
across the board. Grandma finds a new beau. She’s White
but by golly, her new guy is Black. How is that even
possible with 65% of women being White, and only 13% of
men being Black?
In one movie centered on Santa and saving Christmas, a
woman loses her husband. She’s single for the rest of the
movie. In the sequel, her boyfriend is Black. The guy
plays a nice enough role, but it is just unnecessary.
Am I against grandma or anyone else being in a biracial
relationship? Not really. It’s the realization that I am
being gamed by this being foisted off on me in most new
productions. I resent it.
In a show with 5-8 main characters, there has to be a
homosexual mixed in. This would tend to convince folks
at least 12.5% of the nation is homosexual. The same
applies to 5 in 10 main characters being Black. Is the
Black populace 50% of our nation’s populace? If you get
picky, is it 32.5% of our populace, if you’re just
comparing to Whites? No.
This not being enough, they toss in Leftist pipe dreams
about our society as if they are now reality. Some of
these things are the height of absurdity.
The number of new programs I watch, I’m finding more and
more shows I can’t watch more than 5-10 minutes in, because
it becomes clear what I’m going to be spoon fed over the
next hour or two.
“Though you’d swear that half the country is homo/lesbo by what we’re beginning to see in media. But that’s the narrative they’re trying to drive.”
It’s the same with mixed-race, especially black-white, couples in TV ads. The most common mixed-race pairing in the US is an Asian wife with a European husband, but that is almost never shown in ads.
Look at TV ads. Interracial marriages of all types represent 7 to 9 % of all current marriages. Yet in TV ads showing couples, black white couples seem to appear 25 to 40 % of the time. Ad agencies are selling more than their clients’ products.
Patrick Moynihan described it as “defining deviancy down”.
