Do you ever want to order some food, but when you go to Uber Eats, DoorDash, or Postmates, you’re put off by the cost once fees are added?
Well, Gov. Jay Inslee is here to help — both you and restaurants struggling during the pandemic.
Inslee is placing a cap on fees charged by third-party delivery platforms, such as Uber Eats, DoorDash, GrubHub, Postmates and others.
Taking effect at 12:01 a.m. Nov. 25, the cap on delivery fees will be set at 15% and total fees at 18% of the purchase price of an order.
Since the rise of COVID-19, third-party delivery services have helped fill the void for restaurants that have pivoted to takeout, but don’t offer their....
“We recognize the challenges posed by COVID-19 to our restaurant community, and we’re grateful to third-party delivery platforms that have made it possible for Washingtonians to continue supporting local restaurants, and allowed many businesses to stay open,” Inslee said.
“However, these are difficult times. We all must sacrifice during these uniquely challenging times to both support our businesses and slow the spread of COVID-19. We encourage Washingtonians to support their local restaurants safely through delivery and take-out options that are available.”

I just need me a small order of em chicken nuggets, and step on it.
So all I want is an order of fries off the value menu. My delivery fee is 25 cents. Great!
I do feel bad for restaurants, but why screw the drivers?...they have expenses too....
I did something crazy. I let the market do it’s thing. When seamless got crazy with their delivery expenses I found a new site called beyondmenu.com. it’s called capitalism and the California governor hates it.
I will probably use one of the restaurants on their site to get food for festivus.
Not going to WA to order lunch!
Time to kick the Left Coast out of America so they could reestablish the Soviet Union.
Or maybe just put driver labor as a separate line item at the magic $15/hour. If it takes 30 minutes to pick up the food and deliver it, you pay $7.50 plus mileage.
No, because we have none of those delivery services where I live. The local restaurants do it themselves.
Gee, I wonder if any soviet bloc emigrants ever heard anything like that?
No, silly, the driver must deliver food regardless of the quantity or distance involved and must pay tax on the $15/hour plus 57.5 cents per mile plus other expenses. So, let us say that your driver spent a full hour, traveling 30 miles to deliver your $10 meal. He gets paid not more than $1.80 minus fees but must pay taxes on $15 in time and $17.25 in mileage or $32.25 in imputed de minimis income. At a 25% tax rate, that comes to $8.0625 in taxes.
See, what an easy profit!
Minimum order rule will kick in, and now the minimum order will probably go up.
I did hear Inslee saying something about everyone who is younger than 18 years old now being 18 years old.
I'll drink to that.
Deliver or else?
How about Inslee GFH?

His “help” will result in delivery companies refusing to deliver. Brilliant.
