At the risk of attracting scorn I will say that I believe masks kind of do work. As a person who is susceptible to upper respiratory viruses I have often been tempted in the past to wear a mask to the store during cold and flu season. I don’t want to catch anything including covid. BUT, masks should be a personal choice. It’s supposed to be a free country.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

I’m not a doctor; I don’t play one on TV. My observation is that it is almost impossible to position my face diaper such that my eyeglasses do not fog with each breath I exhale. If I am contagious, that vapor contains the pathogen along with water vapor. I thusly conclude that the mask is utterly ineffective in stopping the virus from spreading.

Lots of studies were don before the China virus existed. Pretty much all said the same thing: No good against viruses and almost no good against bacteria. Hospitals used fitted masks used with gloves and gowns and protocols for changing when dealing with high risk patients. But just a surgical mask? And a REUSABLE surgical mask? Or a bandana? Worse than worthless.

No idea why we needed to throw out 50 years of studies and experience other than to allow politicians to give false confidence to the ignorant. They needed to be seen “doing something” to please their voters. And now 100+ million are emotionally invested in masks. Last night, I read a thread on a forum dedicated to horse riding. A whole bunch of fussy, anal women who were certain everyone at a boarding place for horses were going to die because a mother and daughter were seen saddling a horse - and they weren’t wearing masks!

I wanted to ask if the horse was wearing a mask but there comes a point where insanity has taken over and all you can do is step back and watch the frantic stupidity swirling around like a tornado. Hurricane strength mass stupidity. Best to evacuate. You won’t beat the storm.

I can tell you that there is 1 big lie here. The studies DO NOT conflict with findings of other studies. Once you read those studies and the conclusions they all basically tell you the same thing. Masks aka homemade face coverings for the general public going about their daily business do not have any proven benefit in stopping COVID and may even increase the risk of infection/contamination.

Keep in mind that most of these studies were usually concerned with the wearing of surgical masks by health care workers.

You can do studies till the cows come home but there is still one inescapable fact, these face diapers, masks, etc. cannot stop a virus: PERIOD.

If you want to stop a virus from entering your nasal cavities or other orifices, wear a hazmat suit. That should get some looks of ridicule. I would if I could afford one simply because I have a twisted sense of humor.

The whopper is surgeons wear a mask, so they must work... so then if a surgeon has a virus, do they go to work anyhow thinking its ok because they wear a mask ? How can people be so gullible ?

Masks, stop spray when coughing right ? But so does a Kleenex or handkerchief which was a normal thing until covid hysteria , which at least these are put away when done , not left on our faces with a constant stream of moist air blowing past, and turning the large droplets into fine a mist aerosol while culturing a petri dish of germs in our faces for hours

The fine holes on the mask fabric ? What about the big gaping cracks top and bottom left and right ? Unless the wearer has a fitted mask with a hermetic seal, any talk about the weave of the mask , is stupid, might as well use a fishnet stocking ..

Noses culture bacteria and virus so we should block them with anything is better than nothing ? This one is a doozy, because so do masks but that big gaping crack on the top of masks people are using without a hermetic seal , the germ filled vapor will be diverted towards our eyes.. So when we think we are outsmarting God to place a mask over our own natural filter , our NOSE,, God designed our noses to blow air away from our eyes, while man's better mask system now wants to blow it into the eyes? Yea , great idea !

You know what works? People who are vulnerable to catching a flu , a cold or having flies land on them should stay home , like they always have done, and not expect that its safe for society to be free from tyrannical covid laws unless grandpa can feel good about playing cards in a public bus station bathroom.

And THAT is the real reason behind masks.

I almost never wear one, and when I am forced to, to enter a business, I pull it down or off as soon as my back is turned to the mask nazi at the door. If some karen confronts me, I ignore them. Never argue. Just ignore. If “authority” confronts, I say Oops! Then put it on, than take it back off ASAP, again. And again.

My wish? That the ‘Mask Nazis’ had been 1/4 as vigilant finding ways to stop the weirdos & druggies from spreading AIDS and HEP-C.

Put me in the group that finds masks useless - however, if I’ve wanted to get anything DONE in the past NINE MONTHS, I’ve had to wear one in public to get groceries or gas, etc.

We are going to live to regret the whole year of 2020 - probably beyond. The isolation of our elderly and kids and computer ‘schooling,’ while keeping the HEALTHY locked up is going to damage us in ways we can’t even conceive of, yet!

I mean, I am the nicest person you’d ever want to share a foxhole with, and even *I* feel ‘STABBY’ more days than not!

• There are ZERO clinical trials that show that masks can prevent transmission of the virus from wearer to others.
• This is the first and only randomized clinical trial we have on mask against COVID-19 in community settings, but its findings of ineffectiveness are fully expected in light of all the other RCTs we have on other respiratory viruses.
• No matter what this or any study concludes, it will mean nothing to the mask cultists who are in a full-blown, hair-on-fire, dig my beliefs frenzy. Likley explained by the “Sunk cost fallacy”. They are possessed religious fanatics and nothing will shake them from their desperation to control something about this virus. If these are the findings from a covering such as a surgical mask, imagine how inept cotton masks are.
• Nothing short of a hazmat suit or N95 will protect them from their greatest fear....getting a virus that has a 99.7% survival rate.
• Can anyone answer this question: how do masks reduce transmission one way, but not the other? Is there some sort of one-way valve stitched into the fabric?
