Gun registration? I don’t recognize that as constitutional or something that I would do, even if I did have any covered weapons.

Guns = 2nd Amendment
Speech = 1st Amendment

Taxing guns = taxing speech

This is a perfect example of where State Nullification could apply.

Imagine if any state simply said: sorry, Fed.gov. We are not collecting any tax on guns. That is unconstitutional. Our state will not enforce it, nor will we allow Fed.gov to enforce it within our state.

Two words: Gray Market.

Thank god for the underground Web. Gun sales there are going to soar. Install the Tails OS on a flash drive, run it behind Tor browser and get all the guns you ever want without leaving a trace of Internet fingerprint. They can’t tax what they can’t find, and they can’t find it if there is no trail.

They'd take it right out of your bank account.

Somehow I don't think BofA, Wells Fargo, Chase, etc, etc will fight the federal government.

Slow down the panic. It’s an idea that is impossible to enforce. No one is going to self report. This is pure theater for the lefty loonies. IF, and that’s a big IF, such a bill was even able to make it out of Congress, it would have to get past the Supreme Court. With the current configuration that now includes Amy, it wouldn’t. Breathe deep.

A scheme like this would absolutely be challenged and, if the underlying case is constructed correctly, could completely undo the NFA.
