Florida “Anti-Mob” Bill Gives Civilians Immunity If They Shoot Looters Or Run Over Protesters

This week, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the drafting of a new piece of legislation that would expand the state’s Stand Your Ground law. He is calling the legislation an “anti-mob” bill and it seems specifically targeted at the Black lives Matter movement and the ongoing protests against police brutality that have swept across the United States in recent months.

The new legislation, if it becomes law, would allow armed citizens in the state of Florida to shoot, and potentially kill anyone that they suspect of looting a home or business.

According to the Miami Herald, the legislation is an attempt to prevent “violent and disorderly assemblies” by allowing civilians to use violence against anyone involved in the “interruption or impairment” of a business. The law specified that any burglary within 500 feet of “violent or disorderly assembly,” could be legally answered with lethal force.

The proposed legislation has been criticized by legal experts in the state, who fear that it could give vigilantes a license to kill anyone who they deem to be a rioter, and could further increase the change of civil unrest.

Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, has drafted “anti-mob” legislation that would expand Florida’s Stand Your Ground law that critics say would allow armed citizens to shoot suspected looters or anyone engaged in “criminal mischief” that disrupts a businesshttps://t.co/tVEgmnWmIr — Hamza Shaban (@hshaban) November 10, 2020 Former Miami-Dade County prosecutor, Denise Georges, who has experience with Stand Your Ground cases in the state, told the Herald that, “It allows for vigilantes to justify their actions. It also allows for death to be the punishment for a property crime — and that is cruel and unusual punishment. We cannot live in a lawless society where taking a life is done so casually and recklessly.”

From our own Travis McGee, AKA former SEAL Matt Bracken:

o I never ever stop (at a red light or anywhere) nearer than 15 feet from the vehicle in front. This allows me to accelerate out even if the timid fool in front is afraid to move.

o If I see even a hint of a protest, I get in the inside lane, so I’m not trapped along the curb side by vehicles on my left.

o If anybody stands in front of my vehicle, I’m going to move forward at 5mph. At 5mph or 35, a human cannot stop or even slow a vehicle. Its many horsepower vs one human power. No contest. Car wins. At 5mph, you are demonstrating (to a later hypothetical court) that your intention was not to run anybody down. They can simply move out of the way, or not.

o After the Portland beat down, I have a reasonable fear of death or grave bodily injury if I’m pulled from my vehicle by an angry mob. I’m not stopping. I’ll keep a steady 5 mph forward speed.

o If I see a gun brandished, or one of my windows is breached, I’m going hammer down, and to hell with anybody in front of me. “Fear for my life.”

o I will not pull my own gun as long as my vehicle is moving. It’s just a better weapon than a pistol, and the vehicle gets you clear of the danger zone, a pistol does not.

o I will only pull my pistol if my vehicle is physically stopped, (and I don’t mean by idiots standing in front of it.)

I’ve always liked the idea of “you loot, we shoot.” Adding specific protections for people who must use their vehicles to escape a life threatening situation (and every “peaceful protest” is a life threatening situation) is an added plus.

The law specified that any burglary within 500 feet of “violent or disorderly assembly,” could be legally answered with lethal force.

In Texas, burglary can be answered with lethal force even without a “disorderly assembly.”

I still say it would be more effective if they simply paid
out $12.50 per pelt.

I’m envious of your Governor.

Here in Alabama, we are still in WuFlu Hell. Restaurants, Churches, Schools, etc are open and we can attend College Football games, except for the ludicrous social distancing in Bama’s massive stadium.

But our RINO, over the hill Governor is under the spell of her paranoid State Health Officer, who is a true Karen. Alabama is the only Southern State with a mask mandate.

A mandate that I and many others ignore.

Isn’t this already a standard in West Virginia? Not sure that most of the LE there would even be concerned if there was a law...lol.
