Presidential historian Jon Meacham was reportedly let go as an MSNBC contributor after he apparently failed to disclose to the network that he was a speechwriter for President-elect Joe Biden, including the victory speech he gave on Saturday night.
Sources told The New York Times that Meacham had been "playing a larger role than was previously known" behind the scenes, "both writing drafts of speeches and offering edits on many of Mr. Bidens big addresses, including one he gave at Gettysburg last month and his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention."
Biden campaign press secretary TJ Ducklo told the Times, President-elect Joe Biden wrote the speech he delivered to the American people on Saturday night but that "given the significance of the speech, he consulted a number of important, and diverse, voices as part of his writing process, as he often does.
Meacham, who publicly endorsed Biden back in March, has long been a go-to analyst for MSNBC. However, the Times also reported that, according to a network source, Meacham would no longer be a paid contributor going forward but that he would still be welcomed as a guest.
But as the Times noted, Meacham did appear on MSNBC following Biden's speech on Saturday without any disclosure that he was heavily involved in the crafting of the president-elect's address.
Im not the historian that you are, and I dont have the Pulitzer that you do, but do you concur that is the way we are used to hearing from our presidents? MSNBC anchor Brian Williams asked.
Absolutely, Meacham answered.
MSNBC did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment.

MSNBC is Comcast
So that’s why that guy has an 8 inch nose.
Shocked they let him go, after all they’re all tied to the dems some how.
This article, by someone at Fox News, repeatedly refers to Biden as president elect. What a bunch of garbage. I do not recall GWB being referred to as president-elect before the meeting of the electoral college in December 2000.
They didn't know? My ass.
Not much of a speech writer.
An appearance of impropriety? Since when does the fake news media cares about that?
“Not much of a speech writer.”
By traditional standards that’s true - but it can be challenging to craft a speech to minimize the odds of Jomentia saying impreezlebranfure.
The guy is a nasally mediocre “wanna be” historian who is a mainstay on NBC programming.
He’s a Bush type Republican who has a tremendous dislike of President Trump.(How shocking)
It’s going to be interesting how never-Trump Republicans defend the Biden/Harris monstrosity, as it weakens America over the next 4 years.
They funded and voted for this weak leadership.
“They own it” and will be held accountable.
I'm amazed MSNBC has exhibited decent journalist ethics. Odd.
This is fun to watch like Al Qaeda fighting ISIS.
Did Bidet contact Neil Kinnock for some speech writing tips
When Biden says "the soul of America" that's Meacham plugging his book/movie of that title.
I’m sure Joe and Mika knew... but some ethical journalist at that network just found out... What’s amazing about this story is that there’s at least one ethical journalists at MSNBC. I would have bet against it...
Joe couldnt write his abcs.
Not ethics so much as public relations. They thought it looked bad. If the story hadn’t reached the public, but those at the network knew, would he really have been let go?
I suspect you're right x, but sometimes the world feels safer if I pretend there's still real old school journalists out there...people who would protect us if thugs started loading us on to cattle cars...
