I have heard the horror stories of living through hurricanes. Hours of hurricane strength winds can reduce the bravest soul to despair. In the Great Lakes region, there are times of hurricane-strength winds, but the duration can be for days, not hours. If you have ever experienced the fury of one of these storms, its a memory you wont forget. Huge waves slashing the coastlines, winds that seemingly never end, the howls rushing around your home like a pack of wolves gone mad.
Gordon Lightfoot wrote about these storms in The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Its a haunting song, and strikingly beautiful.
Well, there is a real storm here right now, a gale force that is sweeping through America. The country is being pounded by wave after wave of chaos, negativity, noise, and confusion. Keeping sanity sometimes becomes the number-one goal in times like this. I know a couple that described three nights of being unable to sleep during one of these gales. On the fourth night, they moved to a back room, put a mattress on the floor, closed the doors, turned on a box fan, and prayed their power wouldnt be shut down.
Does anyone know where the love of God goes When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
Such is the pressure most of us are under right now. Most of us want to find that room to put that mattress down. Many of us hearing the shrieking winds wont sleep.
Here are some of the fears the left has promised us: Hillary has insisted there will be no concession if Joe loses.

1. That song gives me chills EVERY time I hear it. The lyrics are just piercing and heartfelt.
2. Evil never quits. To expect otherwise is foolhardy. To contest the metaphor used here, the gale we face will never cease. “Blessed are those who are reviled and persecuted for My sake.”

There’s only one word I can think of to describe those storms: BRUTAL.
I’m in an actual hurricane right now. I live in Western Panama which is getting constant rain and wind from Hurricane Eta (although not as rough as what the folks in Nicaragua and Honduras are enduring). It’s too wet and windy to go anywhere.
I have the same sort of dread today that I feel whenever my football team has to play Oklahoma. I know we’re more likely to lose than win and when we do win, it’s almost never a blowout. It’s like a pit in my stomach that continues until the final gun.
And yet I know that God is sovereign. He’s in control. Whatever happens today/tonight, it will be within His will and He will use the events to accomplish His plan.
I sent in my Texas ballot weeks ago (DHL delivered it on October 15th. I paid $45 to get it there) so all I can do now is pray and wait.
Folks, COVID doesn’t even make the Top 5 of things on my mind right now. I do suspect a lot of the bump in cases being reported are fake to turn people against Trump. There will be several things where I think the numbers will drastically change once the election is decided and the cases of COVID is one of them. The stock market, OTOH, was up yesterday which is either a good sign for a Trump win or the elites thinking Biden will win. I’d prefer to think the former.
With God’s help, I will ride out the real and political storms and steel myself for the onslaught of bad news hoping like heck there are still more Americans who won’t fall for the slander and dirty tricks than ones who do. The Lord delivered us in 2016. May it be even moreso in 2020.
