As voters head to the polls to select the next president, citizens of five states will decide whether to legalize medical or recreational marijuana.
Right now, 33 states have legalized medical cannabis, according to CNN. Eleven of those states have legalized marijuana for recreational use.
In 2016, pot measures passed in eight out of nine states where it was on the ballot.
Heres a look at the states where voters will decide the future of pot:
Arizona A proposition on the ballot would legalize the possession and use of marijuana for adults who are 21 or older. People would be permitted to grow six marijuana plants at their home as long as the plants arent in public view...
Four years ago, voters narrowly rejected a measure to legalize recreational marijuana.
Mississippi There are two measures on the ballot in Mississippi that aim to legalize pot for medical purposes...
Montana The state will see two marijuana initiatives (for recreational use) on the November ballot...
New Jersey Question No. 1 on the ballot would make pot legal for adults 21 and older. Medical marijuana is already legal in New Jersey...
The constitutional amendment would take effect on January 1 and would make Jersey the first state in the Mid-Atlantic to legalize marijuana, according to Ballotpedia.
Because of the economic impact expected to be brought in by residents of neighboring states, its believed passage in New Jersey could put pressure on other states in the region to pass similar measures.
South Dakota The state will be voting on both medicinal and recreational marijuana during the general election...
BDS Analytics, a industry intelligence firm, reports the marijuana business in the United States could top $30 billion before the next presidential election.

Yeah it really worked well in Colorado
Hasnt really been a big deal in MA. Ive run into a bunch of folks ate the gardening store who grow it.
Putting marijuana and other drug legalization on the ballot is a Democrat tactic to get out the young vote for Biden. Young potheads who wouldn’t vote otherwise will turn out for this.
The people who put the legalize pot law on the ballot in AZ are the same big companies that sell medicinal marijuana. They will have a near monopoly on pot sales here.
And the Libertarians....
Except Biden has a former prosecutor as his running mate who put lots of people in prison for minor offenses.
“Yeah it really worked well in Colorado
That’s what I heard. Have you heard otherwise?
Pot destroys young men.
DON’T DO IT!
The booming schizo homeless population is one effect.
Attention republican states....if pot is on the ballot, the burnouts turn out en masse and elect libs. Best them to the punch and decriminalize it... The potheads will stay home
“”””They will have a near monopoly on pot sales here.””””””
Pedro will sell it much cheaper and you save a lot of tax.
Is this a blunt assessment?
“The booming schizo homeless population is one effect.”
Being the first legalizing state made them a pothead magnet ... no other state will be first.
I’m in WA.
OR is the same.
Potency of 80% THC is the issue, not location or order of legalization.
That was then. This is now. Socialism by any means necessary...
WA and OR were also early legalizers.
Not that I’m opposed to state limits on THC concentration ...
I’m in South Dakota and will be voting No on both measures, it’s going to be a close vote.
Seems like the AZ initiative would basically decriminalize for adults, at least as reported in this story. Doesn’t mention taxation or setting up retail outlets. Once the state starts taxing something, then there will always be a black market.
