Trump Rewrites H-1B program to help American White-Collar Workers
Brietbart ^ | 10-29-2020 | Neil Munro

Posted on 10/29/2020 5:24:00 AM PDT by PK1991

President Donald Trump has launched a fundamental reform of the H-1B visa system to protect American graduates from outsourcing — despite furious opposition from donors and leaders from Silicon Valley, Fortune 500 companies, and coastal investors.

The reform will end the annual award of 85,000 H-1B visas by lottery, which has been gamed by companies to import foreign workers at wages far below the salaries needed by American professionals. Instead, the visas will be offered to the companies that compete to offer the highest salaries, preventing employers from undercutting American graduates.

If it is worth doing, why do it in a panic a few days before Election Day?

If you need someone that bad, the salary should show it.

Otherwise, cultivate it from within or find it where it exists, here.

What do you know? H-1B being used for those with special and unique skills like the program promised, rather than 85,000 new first line help desk operators or web page typists creating articles on “10 things you didn’t know about chutney”.

Just end it. 85,000 workers per year, who supposedly stay six years but in practice never leave... what do you think that does to the American workforce? Add them up and you’re talking hundreds of thousands competing with American workers.

Immigration policy should not be used to manipulate wages, or demographics. Only people who love us and want to be us should be admitted, and only in numbers that can be absorbed and assimilated.

Who says he’s doing it in a panic and since when is not doing it earlier a criticism for doing it now?

This move is along the arc of discussion set by the president when he ran for office in 2016.

It’s never too late to fulfill a campaign promise.

Why is 85,000 the magic number? If it is so good why not 300,000? Why not a million? Hell, just replace every white collar worker with a foreign national!!!

Boloney. H1b visas are an arbitrage game. Big firms bring in lower paid Indian workers, force them to work like slave labor, selling the hours and pocketing the money.

Who says it was “in a panic”? The President has talked about this for some time. Such moves by the Executive must be vetted by platoons of lawyers and that takes whatever time the lawyers decide they need.

Exactly. They admit something like a million people a year, not counting illegals. How do they arrive at that number? Whose interest does that serve?

They will never ask Americans what they want. In fact, even finding real numbers is all but impossible, they don’t think it’s any of our business.

Better idea: charge a fee of $50,000 per visa per year. Suddenly, only the highest skilled will be hired.

Congress would have to end the H1B by legislation.

Trump can only strangle the H1B by regulations.

Someone will have to enforce wages not being reduced by kickbacks to the sleazy body shops.

It's a modest start. The draft rule probably took the bureaucrats a year to write.

H-1B is simply high tech human trafficking.

Despite all the sickening virtue signalling to the contrary, there in only one reason for legal immigration and that is to increase the domestic labor supply and to lower wages. There is no other reason to import humans across the border.

85,000 is the cap set by Congress.

As someone who owns an IT consulting firm and refuses to hire any H1B Indians, I have done my clients a great service. I could wax for 9 paragraphs here about Indian IT “Talent”. Their limited capacity to understand quality, timeliness, and sticking to your word. There is a reason their culture is a sh*thole. It’s the people. I have more business than I can handle right now and am looking at quoting an 8 figure project Statement of Work that a large consulting firm is on presently that I can take from my prospect is filled with Indian mumblers and goldbrickers. I have 3 guys I work with who are seasoned red white and blues and they are worth 10 Indians a piece. H1B = Useless. I have never seen one case where there is not an American that can do it. Whether it’s IT admin work, database programming, or project management. I personally have two dear American friends of Indian descent, but would I hire their cousin from Mumbai...oh hell no.
