An Air Force jet was scrambled above Donald Trump's rally in Arizona on Wednesday after an unannounced plane flew overhead.
'Oh, look at that! Look, look, look!' the president yelled, pointing to the sky.
The F-16 attempted to make contact, and the aircraft initially ignored the jets.
The fighter plane then released flares, and the intruding aircraft then established radio communications and was escorted out the area.

I live just east of Nashville, very near the path that AF-1 would take from Andrews to Nashville for the debate when I heard an unusually loud jet nearby (I live close to the Lebanon airport). Turns out the F-16 was circling the airport until a small private plane landed and taxied well off the runway.
I was near the DC beltway on 9/11. Hearing those fighter jets above that day struck me because I realized the loud sound of their engines were operating in anger. It was not an air show or exercise they were responding too.
Goodyear, AZ airport and Glendale airport are both within the shadow of Luke AFB. While primarily a training base they do have some weapon ready aircraft. If you takeoff from Like to the SW you fly right over Goodyear.
Could have been a credible threat, I doubt we will ever know.
You are correct. That jet was not scrambled, it was vectored. POTUS has air cap in situations like that. How do I know? I live in PA, about 30-40 miles WSW of Trumps Bedminster, NJ golf club. When POTUS is there, we have hours of fighter jet traffic over head, as they loiter and fly circles at low speed, waiting to go in if needed. They fly at about 2000 feet, Ive seen both F15s and F16s, all loaded for bear. They come over our house about every 15-20 mins, just loafing along. Awesome sight, knowing they are ready to kick ass if needed.

Really not want to see that
ANTIFA got an air force?
I saw an F-16 chase away a small airplane at a GWB rally in Florida some years ago. The plane got pretty close really. One thing I noticed was how hard it was for the F-16 to go slow enough to stay behind, even with full flaps and landing gear deployed. I read that the pilot lost his license for a while for violating a temporary no-fly zone.
Cmon man! Theyre just an idea!
I was wondering who my first wife sold that to........
The F-16 already has more than enough armament to convince a pilot to put his plane in reverse and back out of the restricted air space.
...emergency flares...
Ah, journalists. Ever uninformed.
The military have too many rules. Would make more sense to hire a trusted layer of private security.
My first reaction, too. Aren’t there several fighters loitering in the air around POTUS? They had a SCRAMBLE a jet into the air? WTH?
Wow, were impressed that you use acronyms not understood by most civilians.
Now that’s a “Witch Craft” lol
If they had a clue how much it costs to operate AF1, theyd shiite a brick.
My former mother-in-law monster-in-law used a similar piece of equipment to travel.

LOL. She was that bad, eh?
