This is why it can never be used in California.

Re: prepping, The basement leaks when there’s a 2+ inch rainfall here. Midnight last night I thought about placing a tarp under the deck where the water comes in and woke at 6:00am to do it but it was already raining so I went back to sleep. Should have done it at midnight. Oops.

The surf is up here (Galveston Bay) and we are not even close to Zeta. Hope this is the last TC of the season.

Looks like Grand Isle/Port Fourchon is landfall. Can’t detect any appreciable water level increase since this morning here at PC Beach, tho surf is more boisterous. A bit more breezy.

They just upped all of inland Central Alabama from Tropical Storm Watch to Warnings.

Latest models show Zeta to be over Montgomery area around 1 AM with sustained winds of 60 MPH and gusts to hurricane strength possible.

prepping, The basement leaks when there’s a 2+ inch rainfall here.

I am going to start letting water out of the pool this evening, and going to secure outdoor furniture and put Halloween Decorations in the garage.

This morning I pulled my generator out of the barn.

Over 100 pulls on the starter cord and it will not start. Took the carburetor apart. Cleaned jet and very dirty bowl and replaced gaskets.

Another 100 pulls and still won’t start. $#%#$#@#!!!

I’m exhausted and guess I’ll be without power for awhile.

This is really my own fault. I bought it right after Opal in 1997.

It’s always been quite reliable but I haven’t tested it recently (and by recent I mean the past X* years).

*Means old people’s years which is always a long time but one thinks was not that long ago.

You still have a few hours to charge up your phone, tablet, and backup batteries, cook up a yummy meal, grab a couple of bags of ice, and put a hot pot of coffee in a thermos.

We toss patio/pool furniture into the pool. Safest location, and it comes out as clean as can be.

Same thing happened to me during Hurricane Maria. After years in storage, my generator wouldn’t start. I spent two weeks without power before I found a repair. And then it served me well for another 26 days until I finally got power restored.

Now, every month on the 20th, the anniversary of María, hurricane season or not, I give my TWO generators a good 15-minute run, check the oil, etc. Never again.

Good luck to you.

Lots going in here, barely current, but...

I’m hearing outrageous ice accumulations out of the Texas mess.

Six inches?

Those kinds numbers put regional grid under the kind of stress that can bring down adjacent regions, esoecially if a lot of back-n-forth transfers are in play.

Adding Zeta to this mix won’t help.

Not now, not over the next few days.

If it has fuel, air and spark, it HAS to run.
