Democrats to boycott committee vote on Amy Coney Barrett's Supreme Court nomination
The Hill ^ | 10 21 2020 | Jordain Carney

Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee will boycott Thursday's committee vote on Judge Amy Coney Barrett's Supreme Court nomination.

The plan comes as the 10 Democratic senators on the panel have been discussing how to protest the GOP plan to confirm Barrett next week to the seat held by the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and the Democrats on the committee, in a joint statement, said the push to confirm Barrett was a "sham process" and accused Republicans of breaking "the promises and rules" established by refusing to give Merrick Garland, then-President Obama's final Supreme Court nominee, a hearing or a vote.

“Fearing a loss at the ballot box, Republicans are showing that they do not care about the rules or what the American people want, but are concerned only with raw political power," they said.

"We will not grant this process any further legitimacy by participating in a committee markup of this nomination just twelve days before the culmination of an election that is already underway," they added.

Democrats, instead, are expected to hold two press conferences on Thursday.

The rules can be changed by a simple majority.

Does the need for a quorum come into play in the committee or in the main vote?

“Can they “boycott” every single Trump judicial nomination hearings so we can swiftly confirm them?”

Only if we keep the senate, which, at this point in time, is probably a coin toss.

I read last week that Mitch could “pull” the nomination to the floor without a committee vote.

Can anyone else confirm?

"Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee will boycott
Thursday's committee vote on Judge Amy Coney
Barrett's Supreme Court nomination."

That's just fine. Then "The Turtle" should just move
for a floor vote on Friday. The country already knows
how those clown Senators are not going to vote on
the committee.

Isn't there some way to dock those Democrats' pay if
they don't show up and perform their jobs on the
committee? Really -- they only have one task to
perform as Senators from their respective States and
this is to vote yea or nay on legislation or on
matters before the committees they serve on.

They're not doing their job that day, they shouldn't
be paid. And maybe some type of discipline can be
meted out too.

How do quorum requirements play in to this?

I doubt it. If so, the minority could block any vote they were going to lose just by not showing up, and nothing would ever get done.

The Senate is not even in play right now. Even McSally and Susan Collins have caught up and James in Michigan is leading for a possible pick up. Alabama is already a lost cause for the Dems.
The GOP will hold the US Senate.

The quorum in the US Senate is 51. Republicans have 53 seats. The Dems have just 47 seats. They don't have the power to do sh*t.

Perhaps you didn’t read my post: I said we’d pick up the Alabama seat, and that there was a good chance we’d pick up the MI seat. Sorry, but McSally is a horrible campaigner, and from what I hear from good friends in AZ she is not going to pull it out. As for Collins, she has been down an average of 4 points for weeks; and she pissed off a lot of Republicans when she said she’d be a NO vote on ACB. She is hoping to pick up some Dem and Indy voters, but they aren’t buying it.

The senate is very much in play.

Does this boycott effect the committee vote? Will it hold up her nomination being moved to the full Senate vote? If not who cares? The Dems can go sit in the corner and sulk.

I did read your post. This is what it said:

That's it. No more no less.

Poll: Susan Collins, Sara Gideon in Virtual Tie for Maine Senate Race

A poll released Tuesday found Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Democrat challenger Sara Gideon within one point of each other in the race for U.S. Senate in Maine.

And so has McSally
There is no way Trump is winning in Arizona (which he is) and McSally is losing.
