Zion hiker rescue: Utah sheriff’s sergeant questions circumstances that ‘do not add up,’ report says

If Courtier had used the Virgin River as a water source for the full 12-day period, Cashin said, there would have been a “high probability” that she wouldn’t have survived, because the water contains a toxic level of cyanobacteria, ABC4 reported. “If she had been drinking that water, unless she had some really high immune system, she would’ve been very, very ill and probably unable to come out on her own,” Cashin told the outlet. “She either took a lot of water with her or had another clean water source that was near here, but the Virgin River is not that source.”

Sir, allow me to introduce you to a nifty little product called LifeStraw. It has been out for a decade and I don't think I know a single hiker who does not carry one.

Hahahahaha...no kidding. I come from the Land of Moonbats, so I can recognize them a mile away, even without the lawn signs, bumper stickers, and pussy hats!

I will offer a phrase which might confuse. I am writing a book about it.

Forthwith:

Muncheussen Syndrome...spelling might be wrong.

Same as that woman got kidnapped by two Hispanic women.

I was in one of the most leftist locales yesterday...they had dozens of signs like these (three in close proximity)

I didn't wear one.

Yeah, I questioned this, from the get go, and the “rescue” smelled like a dead fish. Wonder if she was bonking one of the Park Rangers for a week, who is now complicit in trying to cover for her. Just a thought . . . .

>>Wonder if she was bonking one of the Park Rangers...<<

I ask yesterday did they check her ass for spank marks. Looks like no one was able to even call an ambulance before she hit the trail.

The Blue Moon? Rehoboth? My daughter used to all of the desserts there 2014-2015.

I ate there, but never went into the bar. Talk about East San Francisco!

“She either took a lot of water with her or had another clean water source..."

Seems like she was at least somewhat prepared:

She is thought to possibly be wearing a "Pistil Gray Trucker Hat, a Patagonia Black Nano Puff Jacket, a Dark Tank Top, Danner Trail Gray Hiking Boots, and an Osprey Blue Multi-day Pack."

She was also thought to possibly be carrying a cream-colored hoody sweatshirt, a Rumple Nanoloft puffy blanket and a camouflage-colored double hammock.

Someone who has all that stuff probably has a LifeStraw or some other way to purify water.

But the eyes say something is off...

Posted this response 10/18 on a earlier string ...

Live in western Colorado. Visited Zion Nat’l Park on different occasions over the past decade. In fact, I’m acquainted with the Superintendent of this park, she was Superintendent of a smaller Federal park nearby to where I now live. She may have retired recently … what I’m leading up to … Zion Nat’l Park is relatively small. How the hell do you remain lost for two weeks in this park? This reeks of BS.

Cyanobacter excrete a toxic chemical in warm, high-sunlight bodies of water.

Exposing a water bottle to sun might kill the organisms eventually, but the water would still be toxic.

Lifestyle will not remove the toxin that cyano bacteria excrete.

It’s not possible to get lost in Zion Canyon.

Exactly - just walk downhill and you’ll come right to the road.

Sunlight will kill bacteria. Fill water bottle and leave in sun. Water can also be boiled in a plastic water bottle over a fire.

The risk with cyanobacteria isn’t getting an infection, it’s the toxins they contain, many of which are UV resistant and survive boiling.
<
In fact, since some are endotoxins (internal constituents of the cell itself) disinfecting cyanobacteria-contaminated water can actually make things worse by killing and breaking down the cells, thus freeing the endotoxins.

Short of some serious purification measures, cyanobacteria contaminated water is a hard no-go for human consumption.

You probably have a higher chance of getting AIDs in Provincetown.

I can’t believe they bolted PERMANENT signs to the posts!

Yes it does, and the post from yesterday showed that it was reeking then too.
