Portland murder suspect Michael Reinoehl had hand on pocketed gun when police shot him: officials

The Portland murder suspect who was killed in a police-involved shooting in September allegedly had his hand on a gun in his pocket when law enforcement agents fired 37 bullets and fatally struck him, officials have announced.

Michael Forest Reinoehl exited an apartment near Lacey, Wash., shortly before 7 p.m. on Sept. 3 carrying two bags and walked to a car parked nearby, according to a police update in the investigation, released Wednesday by Thurston County Sheriff’s Lt. Ray Brady. That same day, it was revealed that Reinoehl would be charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Aaron “Jay” Danielson following an Aug. 29 pro-Trump car caravan in Portland, Ore.

At the time of the Sept. 3 shooting, a federal task force led by the FBI and U.S. Marshals were conducting surveillance on Reinoehl, a 48-year-old self-proclaimed anti-fascist activist, after a warrant had been issued in connection with the case, officials and reports previously stated.

But I will say it annoys me that in the movies, it usually seems like it only ever takes one shot to take down anybody. They don't even make a sound. They always just drop like a sack of potatoes with that first bullet. It's over. Maybe real life isn't so clean.

The recent assassination of Kelner in Denver by Matthew Dolloff took only one shot....and Kyle Rittenhouse need only one shot for one of his assailants...did you miss that news?

Yeah but have you noticed that crooks with full auto rifles don't stand a chance when a 9mm hand gun shows up?

I think they save 1st Degree murder for self-defense cases like Kyle Rittenhouse.

Illinois now says they won't charge Rittenhouse at all.

I wasn’t trying to make a claim that no one had ever been killed cleanly with just one bullet. That does happen.

I have also seen video of cops shooting a suspect repeatedly who seems to take forever to go down.

My point was 1) People shouldn’t be too quick to criticize police for firing a lot of bullets. Sometimes there’s a reason. And 2) Hollywood lives in fantasy land.

The only charge within Illinois jurisdiction was the possible possession of the AR-15 by a minor. Kyle's weapon never left Wisconsin where the homocide charges remain in place. Ergo no Illinois case against him.

37 shots fired How many on target? 2? 12? 22? All 37?

Based on the shooting skills of uniformed officers I’ve seen at a gun range, I wouldn’t assume more than one. The actually kill shot.

So he had a gun in his pocket and he was excited to see the law enforcement agents.

Seattle Times reported he had three 9mm on him at the time of his demise. His sister was “relieved” by his death.

You get 5 or 6 cops that all recognize that the threshold for lethal force has been reached, it eon’t take long to get to 37 rounds.

An aimed shot can be much more effective against a singular targets than spraying autofire, especially at certain ranges.

Sure they can but these guys just hide behind a car door as it is filled with holes, then pop up and dead center the bad guy. Of course I can remember in Boston they fired off more than a thousand rounds and managed to kill one guy who probably died because he was ran over. Marksmanship is hardly a hallmark accomplishment of modern police. It takes a patriot to down a shooter with one shot to the head like happened to that shooter in the Church in Texas.

In Illinois it would have only been some firearm’s charge. But he bought and stored the firearm in Wisconsin so Illinois has no say in the matter. He worked in Wisconsin and a lot of his friends lived there.
