WASHINGTON For the diversity consulting industry, this summer was like no other. Amid the racial reckoning spurred by the death of George Floyd, a wave of senior-level executives began to look critically at their companies, and consultants like Melanie Miller and Loretta VanPelt found themselves deluged with work.
Then President Trump stepped in.
An executive order, issued in late September as Mr. Trump was stepping up his charged attacks on Black Lives Matter protesters and political correctness, banned the federal government, as well as its contractors, subcontractors and grantees, from offering certain diversity training on racial and gender biases teachings that the order called divisive and a malign ideology.
Such orders, prompted by the presidents fixations of the moment, have been staples of the Trump years and often lead nowhere. Like others, Mr. Trumps focus on diversity training seems to have originated with an interview he saw on Fox News, when Christopher F. Rufo, a conservative scholar at the Discovery Institute, told Tucker Carlson of the cult indoctrination of critical race theory programs in the government.
But this time, the impact has rippled through corporate America, academia and the government with remarkable speed. Two government agencies canceled their sessions with Ms. Miller and Ms. VanPelt within weeks, and two companies put their training on hold. Two more might follow suit, the consultants said.
To see the progress, to see the movement, and then all of a sudden, propaganda, divisive, those words just are so, so untrue of what this training actually does, said Ms. VanPelt, a Southfield, Mich., trainer. If were going to actually have this conversation, move the needle, get people thinking about and doing something about systemic racism, you have to talk about it.

One of the most recommeded comments at the NYT site is much more sensible than the article:

Psychologist here, been there and done that off and on for decades with sensitivity training, cross-cultural training, bias training, etc.
Most of the diversity training programs I have examined these days begin with the premise that all Whites are bad actors, and must have their guilt hammered into them until they no longer question it.
However, few if any of these programs have anything to with reconciliation but instead try to get one groupWhitesto believe that they alone are responsible for the problems faced by Blacks. This is not reconciliation; this is finger-pointing and browbeating.
Reconciliation cannot be built on the purported guilt of one party, but must end in a win-win situation for both sides or else bitterness and anger and hostility will continue.
I do have some developing thoughts on how to achieve a win-win in this situation, but more importantly I do know that presuming White guilt from the outset is not how to do it.
This training is not only propaganda it is racist and hateful propaganda against white people.

Isn’t it amazing that the left says Trump causes division and then the same people want diversity training.
Hailey is about 22 years old and doesn’t know shit.
https://twitter.com/hailey_fuchs -— this author worries:
“public outrage over the beleaguered agency [USPS] will fade after the election.” I suspect the outrage will increase after the mis-handling of election materials by this unionized pro-Biden set of federal employees.
Chilling Effect . Good. This Commie bilge should be permanently deep sixed in the deep freeze.
Yet another reason to vote for Trump.
The University of Iowa, fearing a loss of federal research grants, paused programs across the university, including training for university employees on race or sex stereotyping and scapegoating. In a statement, a spokeswoman said the universitys general counsel suspected that the executive order may apply to all employees, not simply those who receive money from the federal government.
How about this Mon Ray of KS “Leave me alone !”
Not hard to do. Unfortunately not much of a corporate\government training package you can sell .
I people cannot complete a census by mail, then how are they going to complete a vote by mail?
Presuming President Trump wins the election, he must smash this hateful ideology in the classroom.
Kids need to be taught, not indoctrinated.
Nothing changes till the money stops.................
Yep.

More importantly. Telling people what they must believe and not believe. That is not the function of government no matter who is in office.
Winning !
i sure hope it has a quick and chilling effect on all this racist “training” bullsheit!
these commies are making America into another racist Beirut. its evil!
we have strong anti-discrimination laws already. don’t need all this forced propaganda and indoctrination bullsheit!
More good news.
once upon a time, her Twitter page would be sufficient to disqualify her from being a “journalist” - clearly not a clue about objectivity.
not that anyone cares what she tweets.
