Just when you thought 2020 couldnt get any worse, several communities in Texas are under a do not use water advisory due to fears that a brain-eating amoeba could be in their tap water.
According to the CDC, the amoeba, Naegleria fowleri, is most commonly found in warm freshwater systems such as lakes, rivers and hot springs in warmer parts of the U.S. People often get infected by swimming in these areas, but the CDC lists contaminated tap water and inadequately chlorinated swimming pool water as very rare instances.
The amoeba infects people by entering the body through the nose and can travel to the brain, causing infection - a rare, but devastating condition known as primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM).

Yes, boiled tap water is fine.
Like you in Everett, here in North King County we have good water, too.
I’m not actually sure whether the Seattle woman who died was south of Seattle with a different reservoir.
I have read, though, that even though the Seattle water is very good that there is still a small amount of bugs, slugs, twig debris which may cause cancer in about one percent of the population.
I actually do get tap water in my nose when I shower. I think the issue with the netti pot was that it was deep penetration into the sinuses.
Poor Lake Jackson....that area (Dow Chemical Ville) is always under some sort of advisory, it seems.
Much ado about nothing. People here are getting to be chicken littles. Your odds of contracting a brain-eating amoeba are about 1 in 70 million.
Amazing. Thanks for that link.
I think my son dated her once. Lotsa hair. Big teeth.
Can you imagine having received this alert, then the lift.
I’d still be leary about using the water....for a few days :- /
Oh no!
Trump should immediately shut down immigration from Amoebastan before Dementiacrats accuse him of waiting too long!
Its rare and not contagious,no comparison.
.
In Texas there is a town called New Braunfels (nice little town), where there is a large
German-speaking population.
One day, a local rancher driving down a country road noticed a man using his hand to drink water from the rancher’s stock pond.
The rancher rolled down the window and shouted: “Sehr angenehm! Trink das
Wasser nicht. Die kuehe haben darein geschissen.”
Which loosely means: “Glad to meet you! Don’t drink the water.
The cows have shit in it.”
The man shouted back: “I’m from New York and just down here campaigning for
Obama’s health care plan. I can’t understand you. Please speak in English.”
The rancher replied: “Use both hands.”
And the cities that are affected are? Oh, Texas near Houston....couldn’t they be more specific?
I hate to pop Yer bubble but that Machine is hooked up to the City Water Supply. It MAY have a Membrane filter or Reverse Osmosis BUT IT'S STILL THE SAME WATER AS IS COMING OUT OF Your faucet(s) AT Your house. Unless You have a Private Well.
And don't count on that Kiosk Machine being Serviced as often as it should be.
Add up how much $$$$ Y'All are stuffing in that machine in a year and I'll bet You could have purchased a Whole House RO or Membrane Filter System.
The City Water Department is required by Law (EPA) to make available to the Public a CCR (Consumer Confidence Report) also called a Water Quality Report for every year.
We live in Golden Valley Az.
We have a well and the water is amazing
Yea, Ill just stay out of swimming holes all together. Since my bone marrow transplant, its not advised.
Austin has built-in immunity...I mean, people with no teeth don’t get cavities either, do they?
Fine for those smart enough to read and actually follow directions. For the others, the amoebas aren’t picky about the quality of their brain food.
I live in the area and I can tell you there is a high level of herd immunity.
Fortunately I’m on a private well.
I can’t believe it’s been 28 years since Sam Kinison died. How is that possible? Where did the time go?
