Vanity: Could glossolalia be ACB's undoing?

Posted on 09/22/2020 4:43:38 PM PDT by EverTrumper

I didn't know there's a word for it, but google defines glossolalia as:

"the phenomenon of (apparently) speaking in an unknown language, especially in religious worship. It is practiced especially by Pentecostal and charismatic Christians."

I have a feeling that the Democrats aren't fighting back as hard as I expected on the potential ACB nomination.

They have a plan to destroy her, and maybe glossolalia (aka speaking in tongues) will be their means of attack.

I can see Kamala asking her, "Do you believe that you have the Gift of Tongues?"

By revelation of the Holy Spirit; akin to prophecy or a word of knowledge; interpretation of tongues is listed as another Gift of the Spirit.

I think people are missing it altegether. that Handmaid's Tale kiped it from Robert A. Heinlein in his book, "Revolt in 2100" especially the story "If This Goes On—" (1940).   It's about a fundamentalist preacher becoming President in 2012 and declaring a theocratic dictatorship.
John Lyle, a junior army officer under the Prophet (Nehemiah Scudder), is stationed at the Prophet's capital of New Jerusalem. Devout at this point, he finds himself questioning his faith when he falls for one of the Prophet's Virgins, Sister Judith. Judith, new to the vocation, faints when she is called upon to render sexual service to the Prophet and is confined to her quarters until she sees the light.

So the story idea goes at least back to 1940 and sounds exactly like the Handmaid's Tale. As this was a book by one of the universally acclaimed top three Grand Masters of Science Fiction it is impossible to deny that it was the complete basis of the evil tale. The details were altered to fit the modern day socialist agenda.

As a disclaimer, I have intentionally not read, not watched, nor gave any attention to the Handmaid's Tale.

The Pentecostal movement took off in the early 1900s (Azusa Street in San Fran), and long predates the Charismatic Catholics. Or, you can look over in Britain, e.g. Smith Wigglesworth.

The SATAN COUNCIL??? Come on!
...............................................
I think that’s a very appropriate way to designate the Second Vatican Council, since the changes mandated by it have greatly facilitated the primary mission of the Evil One which, of course, has always been the destruction of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church! If you don’t think that’s true, give some serious thought to the following:

You said that the Charismatic Movement in the Catholic Church was an offshoot of Vatican 2.

But the Charismatic movement preceded Vatican 2; its move into the Catholic Church was not due to Vatican 2, but to organic, grass-roots transfer.

You may be right. I’m not sure of the timeline for its appearance in Catholic churches, but I’m going to see if I can find a reliable source for that.

I have. That is why I brought it up. It appears to me that the Day of Pentecost was an example xenoglossia, whereas what Paul speaks of is glossolalia. In either case the key aspect is the edification of the church, and glossolalia alone does not accomplish that without the concurrent gift of interpretation and prophecy.

Who is denying that?

Known languages that no one in the immediate area speak need interpreting also.

Still waiting for someone to post just one video out of the thousands on youtube of someone speaking a language that someone else on earth understands as happened on the day of Pentecost.

Do you know people who ‘speak in tongues? Do you know people with the gift of interpreting? Then you can put the issue to rest once and for all. Get one person who speaks in tongues and two people that interpret. Have the person speak in tongues while the two interpreters independently write down what is being said. If you are correct, then the two interpretations would match up. Please let us all know when the video is ready to go.

And the People of Praise are Catholic Charismatic up the wazoo. So yes, it is a potential line of attack. And it also make me wary of her as a nominee.

Just because she is a charismatic? Isn't that being prejudiced about someone's religion?

I’m Catholic. I’ve been active in various facets of Catholicism, including the Charismatic Movement.

I will freely admit that my wariness tends towards pre-judging her on the basis of my own experience of the sorts of mental habits that those involved in the group tend to have.

If one wants to call wariness prejudice, feel free. No skin off my back. I’m not going on any inner city after dark walks with you though.

................................................
Really? You mean you have actually smelled menstrual rags?
You need to tell that to Timothy who wrote that “Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works. 2 Timothy 4:14.

I also seem to remember that Rev 20:12-13 says that “the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.”

Moreover in Rev 2:23-26 I think Jesus said that “I will give unto every one of you according to your works” and “he that overcometh and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations.”

Also in John 5:28-29 the Lord says that “the hour is coming...and they that have DONE GOOD, unto the resurrection of life; and those that have DONE EVIL unto the resurrection of damnation.”

BOTTOM LINE old-ager is that you need to stop listening to the heretics in those protestant sects and do a thorough study of Bible!

23 So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and inquirers or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind? 24 But if an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all, 25 as the secrets of their hearts are laid bare. So they will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!”

So it’s quite obvious, that tongues as practised in Corinth, during New Testament times, included “unknown” tongues.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Why is is ‘quite obvious’ that these were ‘unknown tongues’ in the context of this discussion?

Why couldn’t they simply have been languages that actually existed but were not spoken or understood by anyone in the immediate area? And why shouldn’t that be our presumption every time the Bible mentions ‘tongues’ since the only and primary example of tongues actually spoken in the Bible was at the day of Pentecost where men spoke actual languages they never previously spoke? On that day, men present understood the languages. But if men were not present who understood the language, it wouldn’t mean that the language was completely unknown like you and others want us to believe happens today.

You and many others have made a massive presumption that every time the word ‘tongues’ is used in the Bible it refers to a completely unknown language. But there’s just no justification for that presumption.

Thanks for the laughs brother. Brother, unless you reject me and declare me not a Christian. A “moral” pagan - an anonymous believer - is probably better than me and is your real brother, right? Your fake vicar of Christ says so, doesn’t he? Anyway, wishing you actual faith in the unmerited grace of Christ, and no confidence at all in any of the dung heap of your earthly works, your condemnation of millions of believers being no small part.

Didn’t care much for those passages of Holy Writ I copied to you? Well I didn’t think you would since they so clearly destroy the heresies of that deluded Augustinian monk which you mistakenly think will ensure your eternal salvation. Better to contemplate your countless sins everyday and beg the Lord’s forgiveness! On second thought why not humbly confess your sins to your local parish priest. Remember what the Lord told St. Peter (the first Pope of His Holy Church): “I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of Heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven.” Matt. 16:19

Oh, and don’t forget what the Lord replied when asked “Good Master, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” He was told “if thou wilt enter into life, KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS ... and come and follow me.”

FRiend,
A believer (including any baptized baby) has the Spirit of Christ in him (= the Holy Spirit) and has a new nature (alongside the old nature). The new man does nothing but good works. (The old man does nothing but sin). Therefore every believer is constantly doing good works. When believers get to heaven, they don’t really know what they did that was good. They honestly see every work as tainted, at best.

When you get to heaven, assuming you are a believer, you will be commended on good works that Christ did through you, but they won’t be what you thought they were.

Braggart hypocrites will try to argue with God at the judgement. You know what He will say to them.

Believers will be rewarded at the judgement for things that Christ did in and through them DESPITE their own sinfulness.

See?

> “Good Master, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” He was told “if thou wilt enter into life, KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS ... and come and follow me.”

The person asking Christ was a hypocrite and willing to justify himself. Christ answered him in the same spirit the question was asked. If you want to be justified by your works, you had better do EVERYTHING right.

Remember the outcome of that interaction? It was not a joyous conversion was it?

You really think every believer is successful at following that challenge given by Christ? You are? Really.

What do you think Christ shed His blood for? What do you think atonement is?

You are touting the religion of the flesh. The Law. Every religion does that. Christianity has the perfect sacrifice of Christ for the sins YOU are hiding from everyone reading this.

One of the greatest sins is to try to justify yourself before God. Your are a filthy bag of worms, spiritually, on your own, in the eyes of the Holy God.

He sacrificed His Holy Son to COVER your sins and mine. That is your ONLY justification. And He did it gladly, once, for all.

And that is all completely Scriptural.
