You Don't Have Enough Ammo for the Post-Ginsburg 2020 Apocalypse

Strap In for the Ginsburg Riots, Kids

So, how was your weekend?

The news of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s passing on Friday certainly ratcheted up the 2020 crazy by several orders of magnitude, didn’t it?

I was heading out to meet some friends when I saw the news on Twitter and my first thought was, “This might be the last time I can get out and have fun before ‘peaceful protests’ begin again.” The lefties wasted little time in confirming my suspicion that RBG’s death was going to do the seemingly impossible: make them even more unhinged.

The civil unrest that we’ve been dealing with since May got out of hand because it was being aided and abetted by elected Democratic officials in each of the riot cities. Democrats were perfectly OK with looking the other way and pretending that the riots weren’t happening. It wasn’t until last week that Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi got around to condemning the violence, and that was only after new polling revealed that voter sentiment in the riot zones was shifting to Trump.

D.C. Democrats are already caterwauling about what they will do if the Senate votes to replace Ginsburg before the election and they happen to win control of the White House and Senate in November.

Well at least 3 or 4 , if you had them lined up correctly probably 5 to 6.
Not sure the 5th or 6th would would have enough energy to be lethal.

Remember the NAZIS tried that when they were doing their mass executions by firearm.

ARs are still available here.

May not be exactly what you want but...ammo is another story.

Shotguns and hunting caliber rifles and ammo still available.

And everyone needs a .22LR rifle and a couple thousand rds.

Face it.

If you're not well stocked up by now you're way behind the curve.

"I’m old. ... I don’t know a dozen responsible people ..."

I'm old too.

If you know three responsible people and each of them knows three responsible people, that would be a dozen. If word gets out that you can help, there will be a line at your door.

Doesn’t protect that 6”x8” target sitting on top your shoulders either!

“If word gets out that you can help, there will be a line at your door.”

What I need is a line of people ready to fill sandbags. People just roll their eyes when I tell them I’d like to make this place more defensible.

If you have only one round, that could be lifetime supply, yes?

If RBG ever wrote a decision on the side of our Constitution I would like to read it.....

Actually, it surprised the heck out of me, but I more or less agreed with her dissenting opinion in Wilkie v. Robbins:

https://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/06-219.ZX.html

The case involved a federal agency (Bureau of Land Management) that was systematically & illegally harassing a Wyoming rancher. The conservatives on the court sided with the government, apparently fearing that any other decision would prompt a deluge of law suits. RBG essentially sided with the rancher.

I provided a link to RBG's opinion above, but - trust me - you probably won't want to read through the entire case (it's exceptionally long & involved, with the feds admitting the abuse, but basically telling the land owner to go f*ck himself)...

I don’t believe Ginsburg even made such a death bed “wish”(in wanting the next president to pick her successor) as reported by one of her aids. Now perhaps she may have said it as she began her final death spiral and was still lucid but I don’t believe she made a “win one for the gipper” speech then croaked! “Oh please cue the violins and the movie end credits”...was my first reaction when I heard it!

Ballistic helmets are available that will keep out .30-06 now. There are few practical transparent visors that can do that, though.

Worth mentioning that even if you can’t penetrate the armor, judicious weapon/caliber selection can render the wearer insensate or at least out of the fight temporarily. A shotgun slug will never get through modern armor, but it can still break ribs, numb limbs to uselessness, and ring someone’s bell badly enough to cause unconsciousness even without penetrating the armor, for example. And once they’re down, well, that’s up to you how you want to clean up.

“Most gun stores are long back ordered for black rifles”

Do you think those are mostly 2nd and 3rd purchases, or new buyers?

How many do you think are 6.5 vs 5.56?

It’s probably mixed. To what degree neither of us knows.

But I would think it prudent to have a first AR in the most common caliber...for sharing purposes.

Per my local gun stores, most of their AR sales in the last few months are to first time buyers - their estimates run in the 60% range. 6.5 sales are a tiny minority of sales, as is any caliber but 5.56 at the current time per them.

I for one dislike the AR system, but even I have a piston AR. Because direct impingement sucks. I’m still reaching for my Saiga or a FAL first in the event of an emergency.

I heard Melted wax and cut shells do work.
I’d want to try a cut shell first. Because the wax/glue residue can and will build up in the barrel.

Not that I’ve ever used such things. ‘heard they might be ‘llegal.....

"For those who truly do not have enough ammo, they better buy a reloader and supplies."

I wouldn't bother. I recently tried to get into reloading. The root problem of the ammo shortage is currently a lack of primers. Anything in stock is going to the ammo manufacturers and there's little left to restock the reloading market.

I can't find large rifle primers locally or anywhere online with a few exceptions that are marking it up ridiculously.

I have enough ammo for hunting and practice but I'd prefer a large cushion. I thought reloading would provide that but that's going to have to wait.

Even the Lee Loaders are sold out of many calbers including on their web site.

It's really crazy right now.

One encouraging thing is it will prevent the Left from arming up - what few guns they can purchase now will be empty if things go hot.
