Won’t their Governors just veto it?
This is getting serious very quickly. Levin is correct and these Republicans must get serious and act.
Why is there always an adjective in front of “conservative” talkers, journalists, senators, etc., but never one in front of liberals of any stripe?
They can’t.
The legislatures didn’t even do anything about the overreach of Covid restrictions. They certainly aren’t going to get riled up now.
The PA GOP are useless cowards, don’t count on them to do anything.
Pennsylvania Ping!
Please ping me with articles of interest.
FReepmail me to be added to the list.
They gutless mice.
Doug Mastriano, Russ Diamond, and Mike Jones are notable exceptions—the only ones who have a pair.
Sorry, Mark, but with DemocRAT Governess Nit-Whitmer in Michigan, she aint signing nothing the legislature passes to undo this mess.
There is no place for a veto here.
“Wont their Governors just veto it?”
An interesting question. Inasmuch as this election involves choosing Presidential electors, a case could be made that this falls under Article 2 of the US Constitution, which gives the state legislatures sole authority to determine how the electors are chosen. Under the Constitution, the Governor has no role in that process unless the Legislature gives it to him/her. So they could conceivably pass legislation stating that all votes for the presidential election must be received by the closing of the polls on election day and that the state courts have no jurisdiction to change that, and I don’t think the governor nor the state courts could do anything about it. In that case, the state courts could allow votes for state and local offices received after the deadline to be counted, and maybe even for Congress, but not for president.
This is going to go to the U.S. Supreme Court, With Ruth Bader Ginsberg gone, this abomination can be stopped. It will also illustrate that we must have a full 9 Justice Supreme Court in place before the election, because we will have dozens of challenges to the likely voter fraud that will occur in November. A gelded 8 justice Supreme Court will not be up to the Constitutional challenges that will face us.
See Post #12. Governors have no power in this particular situation. The process for selecting Presidential electors is established by state legislatures.
If a state court or governor tries to override a legislature in a case like this, then a matter that would normally be a state issue would immediately become a Federal court case because of the Constitutional implications.
The original SCOTUS was a six member court.
We’ve had as many as ten.
Even numbers!
With Ginsburg’s seat vacant, that leaves:
- 4 “known conservative” votes
- 1 “swing vote” (Roberts)
- 3 leftist votes.
Roberts is likely to lean towards the Constitutional position, along with the other conservatives.
Now an 8-member Supreme Court has actually become MORE conservative than it was yesterday.
Unlike normal legislative processes, Presidential election procedures are determined by state legislatures with no input from the governor. Thats exactly how its described in the U.S. Constitution.
I learn something every day.
The PA GOP about as worthless as can be. Theyre absolutely pathetic.
