Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) and Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) face rising odds in their high-profile re-election bids, according to a Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday.
Why it matters: Many thought Graham's Senate race was a long shot for Democrats, and the moderate Collins has served as a pivotal Republican swing vote on a number of key issues during the Trump presidency.
Collins, who has criticized Trump at times but voted to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and to acquit the president in his impeachment trial, is down 54%-42% to her Democratic challenger Sara Gideon, Maine's House Speaker.
Graham is tied 48%-48% with Jaime Harrison, his Democratic challenger and the first African-American chairman of South Carolina's Democratic party. Meanwhile: Democrat Amy McGrath, who has raised massive amounts of cash in her high-profile Kentucky Senate race, is down 53%-41% to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, according to the Quinnipiac poll.
What they're saying: "Senate control hangs in the balance as the GOP confronts a likely nail biter in South Carolina and a possible knockout in Maine, offset by a presumably solid lead in Kentucky," Quinnipiac analyst Tim Malloy said in a press release.
Methodology: 1,164 likely voters surveyed in Kentucky with a MOE of ±2.9 percentage points. 1,183 likely voters surveyed in Maine with a MOE of ±2.9 percentage points. 969 likely voters surveyed in South Carolina with a MOE of ±3.2 percentage points.
Graham will win but it will not be by his usual 10% margin. Harrison is burning money on empathy ads like there is no tomorrow. That and any candidate even remotely considered pro-Trump is losing the cheap labor express chamber of commerce support. Also we have to get use to the fact that the solid red south no longer exists.Demographics are destiny.
It's hard to believe given the actual record Trump has to defend but I think there's a genuine risk of GOP being wiped out in Nov. It's all going to come down to who gets their people to the ballot box.
This kind of shows how the Democrats will praise someone when they want to show bi-partisanship, but will throw you under the bus when it suits them. Collins should have never embraced the Democrats in any way. It doesn’t impress the GOP voters, and only makes the Democrats snicker.
“We had two vacations in Maine. We love Maine, so beautiful. Yeah, Collins not looking good at all. She will lose.”
So, you vacationed twice in Maine, and from that you’ve gained the insight that Collins will lose. That’s amazing.
How about we pay you to visit the Arlington race track, and you can give us the trifecta winners in the 2nd race.
Collins wouldn’t surprise me. Live your life trying to straddle the yellow line and you end up as roadkill.
Goober losing in SC is a fantasy. I’m not a fan, but he’s not going to lose that.
Well, if we are going to lose a Republican in the senate, it may as well be the most Democrat senator in the GOP.
Quinn I puke poll
Do like the DEMS in New Jersey. I cant think of their names. Sen. L was running behind, so they replaced him with another unknown DEM that won. Then L. ran a couple years for the other seat and a couple years later and won. Everyone forgot he was a crook!
How effective is that?
It is accurate.
we are in for a hell.
Gideon is a leftist from away who lies.
Collins is no prize, but her reelection helps keep the senate in republican majority status. Gideon, her liberal democrat opponent is a piece of dung. And that’s being polite.
Don’t believe the SC one for nothing. Bet Graham wins by around double digits.
Pretty much.
This Quinnipiac poll is as fake as they come.
Look at the other polls at RCP and compare it to this one. This is a pure suppression poll. Quinnipiac is the voter suppression department of the Democratic Part.
“I will end my interest in politics if South Carolina elects a democrat to the Senate. It aint happening.”
Just remember: you may not be interested in politics, but politics is always interested in you.
For “politics”, substitute communism, liberalism, cancel culture, BLM/Antifa, political correctness, etc.
As for Flimsey Tinkerbelle, I’ll hold my nose and vote for him. Jaime Harrison may have a nonthreatening facade, but his record is that of a screaming liberal.
Agreed.
With mail vote fraud, the 'Rats don't have to get their lazy butts to the polls. The one "judge" in PA just made it a whole lot easier for the 'Rats to commit fraud in PA. Trump won PA by 44,000 in 2016, so flip just 22,000 and it sinks us.
We can offset losing ME by winning back AL, but I think McSally is goin to lose (again) in AZ
I sense more energy on the ground for Trump in the Lewiston/Auburn area, which probably is a good sign for Collins.
I’m keeping an eye on the absentee and early voting numbers. Right now Maine’s at 200,000 absentee ballot requests, democrats dominating there. It could be a case of dems voting early, republicans waiting for election day.
I voted for Collins the girst time she ran. Chose not to vote for her (or anyone) last 2 times she was on the ballot. I will vote for her this time. She he made the right vote when it counted.
This.
People here don't like to hear this. But this is not an unreasonable sentiment, if polls are to be believed.
