When I was at UT Austin in the 1990s there was a city councilman whose previous job was a homeless guy on the street. He’d been elected when a bunch of UT students wrote his name in. He didn’t even know he was running. Surprisingly, or perhaps not considering it was Austin, he became one of the better members of the city council.

Make no mistake, there would be no police "brutality" (MSM's words) if when a policeman tells you to stop, that person complies with the order being given. Being drugged out out or stoned is NO EXCUSE. If the governor does this, he should use it as an opportunity to import an s-load of police laid off by other states’ blue cities, and put these officers under the auspices of the Texas state police and post far more of them in Austin than used to be there.

He could even offer them moving expenses and a travel bonus.

The best part is that they wouldn’t be working under Austin’s rules or direction, and those they arrested would go before state, not city judges.
