September 4, 2020

Posted on 09/04/2020 6:28:11 PM PDT by Ben Dover

Is there a need to worry about this National Popular Vote Interstate Compact pulling the rug out from a President Trump win this cycle?

Oh gosh does it ever stop?Whats next throwing out a banana peel to make people slip? These commies never stop. I don’t if they got enough states to sign on for that but i think it is the mail in ballots they are going for this year.

I’ve been around since ‘03 and have posted 17 threads. I believe this is my first vanity. How many have you posted?

The last I heard, almost all of the states that signed up for this are deep blue to begin with.

California, Massachusetts, New York, Washington, Oregon, New Jersey, Illinois, etc.

I also just had a thought.

Imaginer if Trump winds the popular vote. It really is possible.

Now, do you think California, Massachusetts, New York, Washington, New Jersey, Illinois, Connecticut and Vermont will have to give their electoral votes to Trump?!

God, Lord God, if you have sense of humor, and I believe you do, please, please, please make it so!!!

27 States are trying to get it. 9 already have.

If Trump wins the popular vote, watch these liberals try to sue to overturn the law they passed.

Nope.

In the United States, an interstate compact is a pact or agreement between two or more states, or between states and any foreign government. The Compact Clause (Article I, Section 10, Clause 3) of the United States Constitution provides that "No State shall, without the Consent of Congress,... enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power,..."[1]

Congress is not about to set a precedent that they are willing to give up power and authority in the election process.

Not this cycle, but it bears a close watch. There are 4 Justices on the Supreme Court who will go along with anything and they just one other to err.

NPV backers would need to get the equivalent of 270 electoral votes.
Constitution says no state can make a compact with another state without Congress approval. How likely are smaller and red states to vote for it?

They’d have to get enough states to join,
then ratify.
Not by Nov 3.

To be blunt, if Biden wins along with the House and Senate, that won't matter. They will have made 30 million illegals citizens by 2024, making it impossible for Republicans to ever win again. In addition, by controlling the election voting process, they will most probably mandate 100% unsolicited mail-in balloting at the Congressional and Presidential level, which by necessity will force states to do it for all races (state, local) or have two separate elections, not going to happen except in solid red states. And don't let the Supreme Court give you any hope. Keep in mind that John Roberts is officially on the Liberal side from now on out for issues of this nature.

The problem with the National Popular Vote Compact is irrelevant. If enough states "ratified" the NPVC, they would already be sufficiently blue enough that it wouldn't matter if the Compact were ratified or not; they would most probably get at least 300 electoral votes in non-competitive states, well over the current threshold of 270, without need of the Popular Vote threshold. But if the country were at a point where NPVC was passed with states totaling 270 votes, we are well past the breaking point, and well on the way to a Soviet dystopia anyway, if not already there.

FWIW, I wrote a piece on RedState about the NPVC back in 2016:

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact is Corrupted

Wouldn’t be in effect this year. No time
to pass. But imagine 2024 gets here and
it’s in effect.Say, Mike Pence is nominee.

He loses in CA, NY, and MA.
But wins popular vote by a slim margin.
Pence would be awarded the electoral
votes.

It’s mostly Hilary states that are in it.

Trump could be getting a 50 state sweep if he gets the popular vote, which I think he will.

I think this was just addressed in the last two weeks.
It’s a non-starter.

It will NOT pass muster.
