Bill de Blasio cheers as New York’s tax base flees

One local industry is booming: moving companies, because so many New Yorkers are fleeing the city for the ’burbs in the wake of the pandemic, the spike in violent crime and the general rise in disorder. And Mayor Bill de Blasio’s answer is to cheer.

Perry Chance of Show Up movers told The Post his “volume has increased by at least 70 percent” in the past few months. “[People] say the rich are leaving New York. Well, they are!”

July saw a 44 percent rise in home sales in area suburbs — with an astounding 112 percent hike in Westchester County — over the same month last year, reports Miller Samuel Real Estate Appraisers & Consultants. Manhattan property sales sank 56 percent.

100% true. Liberalism is a mental disorder and they’ll take it with them wherever they go.

I wonder how big a wealth tax DeBlasio has in mind.

One approach is a small wealth tax on the most wealthy 0.1%, just to get the camel’s nose under the tent. With, of course, the intent to expand both the rate and the number of people affected over time.

But, DeBlasio has limited time as Mayor, and possibly limited upside as a politician afterwards. Will he try to go for the gusto all at once, with a large, sweeping tax—say several percent on any total wealth over, say a million (remember, homes are expensive in NYC)?

Or is he looking at this long range, hoping that there will eventually be a mix of local, state, and federal wealth taxes to fund the redistribution kitty?

He can cause a lot more destruction in that time.

DeBlasio could probably balance this year’s budget with a 25% tax on moving companies and U-haul rentals. His only hope after that is if he can find a way to tax homeless junkies and empty space in abandoned buildings and theaters.

If Biden wins, look for restrictions on moving ... you know, because of the virus that is killing a gazillion gorillion people every hour or something. In fact, I’d imagine that the mayors will start trying it on their own. Get out of the cities now. Technology is making them obsolete, anyway.

Watch NYC tax everyone who has ever even visited there, much less lived.

They are following California’s lead.

Hopefully that will be one of the lasting lessons to come out of the pandemic.

Being a Mayor or a Governor IS actually a pretty important job, and you need to pay close attention to the quality of the people you are electing to do them.

Low turnout in these races leads to skewed results. For example, in Pittsburgh, the nominated Democrat is always elected Mayor because most of the time the GOP doesn’t even bother to field a candidate.

So in essence the Mayor of a city of 300,000+ is chosen by fewer than 20,000 activists and union members in the Democrat Primary.

That is how these situations occur.

Blasio has round the clock police protection plus a protective wall to keep him safe, all at NYC taxpayers expense.

He can cut the police and still be safe,

As for folks leaving he says:
1) New immigrants will take their place
2) Tax the rich to make up the revenue
