As Hurricane Laura hit Louisiana overnight, the winds appeared to push a riverboat casino in to the pillars supporting the Interstate 10 bridge.
Louisiana State Police Maj. Doug Cain said they received a report that the Isle of Capris riverboat casino broke from its mooring and was stuck against the Interstate 10 bridge in Lake Charles.
Early reports emerging in the wake of Hurricane Laura show less damage than what was feared.

All casinos, at least in this part of Louisiana, are on barges floating on the water. I believe that this casino received approval to build a casino on dry land.
The casinos have broken away before, and will do so again. Makes them more survivable in a storm like this.
I must say, it seems like if it had to hit somewhere, it hit the best possible place in terms of limiting damage. If it had hit the Houston area, I can only imagine how bad it would have been.
I’ll bet that’s a mess.
That’ll buff right out!

That’s good.
Everything is hyped as the end of the world nowadays.
I knew this was gonna happen.. See #40 on thread of Kelly Ann Conway sayin POTUS might postpone tonights speech. I knew it back in 2009!!!
That gives a whole new meaning to a Floating Crap Game...

A hurricane with sustained winds of 150 mph can do catastrophic damage. I have seen up close what they can do. I hope anyone still living in Cameron evacuated. They are on the coast and have gotten leveled in previous storms.

And in other news, the weather hypesters were having a cryfest this morning because Laura was not a damaging as they had hoped it would be.
There are two bridges I hate driving over, this one and up the road where I-10 crosses the Mississippi in Baton Rouge.
When heading east or west through LA I will drive a bit North and drive on 1-20.
Has anyone found any actual numbers on the wind speed as Laura came ashore?
From my observations of the past, actual wind speed readings are never published.
There’s a webcam focused on that bridge and people were driving over it last night during the apex of the storm. They all seemed to make it though. Everything from Semi trucks to small cars.
Geez! Marty and Wendy just paid for that, too.
I would never drive up this. This is a roller coaster, not a bridge.
