I may offend some by saying this, but Ive long said that this world would be better off without two particular professions: social workers and human resources managers.
Oddly enough, the only HR manager I ever knew who was actually a useful and valuable asset to the company was a former social worker who started working in HR because it paid better. She was a great HR manager because she tolerated no bullsh!t and could spot a problem employee from miles away.

I certainly agree with the latter.

The profession was created and designed to support social engineering efforts, trying to use it to combat those efforts will get one ousted from the profession or charged with malpractice.

If I ran a company that department will be known as Personell. They would handle paychecks, retirement accounts, medical insurance and paperwork for new and soon to be former employees. Anyone in the department who brings up the touchy-feely stuff will be immediately sent to the "soon to be former employee" desk.

That HR lady that could spot a troublemaker, was one in a million.
HR gets paid by the company, so they are -—not— your friend, in spite of all the platitudes.

I may offend some by admitting that Ive made it through 40 years of life without learning the answer to this question, but:
What the hell does a social worker actually do?
