Thursday was a bad day for Netflix, one of the largest video content providers in the world, as well as being a left-leaning organization that partners with the Obamas and other well-known Democrats. Thursday was the day when thousands of people got upset that Netflix was screening and promoting a new French film about tweens twerking as a form of liberation.
The obvious problem, of course, is that what Netflix did is catnip for pedophiles. It also degrades our culture and encourages young children to sexualize themselves. Beyond the obvious, Netflix’s terrible decision points to a more serious problem in Western culture, which is that sexualizing children is a precursor of state control over the individual.
A tweet on Wednesday first identified the problem:

A Variety article from January promoting the movie when the producer had entered into an agreement for it to open nationwide on Netflix, described the film this way:
“Cuties” is about the hyper-sexualization of pre-adolescent girls. It follows an 11-year-old girl of Senegalese [Muslim] origin, living in one of Paris’ poorest neighborhoods, who is raised in a pious tradition, but joins a group of young dancers who hope to twerk their way to stardom.
The movie may indeed be about culture clashes in modern Paris or about pressure on immigrant children (which is what the producer seemed to say), but it still sounds like pedophile porn -- and that’s certainly how Americans understood Netflix’s promotional campaign.

It certainly keeps me motivated from buying a Netflix account. I will continue to use dvd’s of older movies and Japanese anime as my source of entertainment.

Am I the only one remembering the success of the 1955 book Lolita, about a literature professor starting a sexual relationship with his 12 year old stepdaughter? It sold 100,000 copies in 3 weeks, matching Gone With the Wind’s record. It has since been put on many Best Novels Ever lists, been made into multiple movies, a Broadway musical, 4 stage plays, 2 ballets, and an opera.

I just assumed it was because Susan Rice sits on the board of directors of Netflix.

The Feds should be RAIDING Netflix, they should be rounding up all the out takes, cut footage, all recordings of the producers and directors telling these little girls to rub their vagina and breasts in a provocative way for sexual gratification.

I think while salacious, the protagonist in Lolita was disturbed by his attraction to the young girl. I don’t recall it being portrayed as a positive trait, but then I can’t imagine a virtue-packed novel being a best seller.

That is really disgusting. My wife and I have had a real problem with this pre-pubescent beauty contest thing for decades.
I used to love NetFlix, but the when the One and his minions started to get their claws into it, the programming got more and more vile. As Quinn says, “Everything before the but...”
We dropped the service and on the exit survey I told them why. Obviously it went into the circular file. They will not change. We do not miss it. We are not going back.
Most streaming services will have things I don’t like. I just don’t watch them. When a service pushes it’s crap on me like Netflix does, I stop using that service.
