Yup. Don’t know when or how but it will be exactly as prophesied.

Sure does look like the groundwork is being laid, and the trial balloons are being floated.

Ever get the feeling that aliens have taken over the bodies of everyone in power and are creating a world wide prison planet, with a great culling to correspond?

No wonder they are freaking out about President Trump. He is surely protected by God.

The US response to coronavirus has been quite tepid compared to other countries. Still we should all be leary of the gradual erosion of individual freedom, especially from non legislative edicts issued under never ending states of emergency. Somewhere over the last twelve years America the concept of individual responsibility for our well being has disappeared. I guess we have become a nation of Karens and Pajama boy snowflakes who see government as their masters.

OMG, just had lunch with a friend and we made a joke about this very thing! We ate at an outside table and as I took my mask off, I looked up and said “they don’t have the drones out looking for us, do they?”. We laughed - oh, how silly, right?

Good grief!

There is a fundamental difference between Leftists/Liberals and Conservatives that drives right to the heart of this matter, and is disturbing to consider:

Conservatives believe that we have unalienable rights, granted to us by our Creator, that all men are created equal, the right to Life, the right to Liberty, and the right to Pursue happiness.

Leftists/Liberals do not believe this.

They believe that those rights, which WE as Conservatives view as given by our Creator (and thus CANNOT be taken away by a government or person) are given to us by GOVERNMENT.

And that is dangerous in the extreme. If you believe that your government gives you those rights, you have to believe at the same time, that your government may take them away at any time.

And in totalitarian countries...they do.

With impunity.

I fear that, as we as a nation that moves further away from a Judeo-Christian foundation, this notion becomes antiquated to the point it has no meaning.

In many ways, we are already there. They are likely waiting for those of us who do believe to die off.

‘How far is too far?’

I believe personal vehicular travel is limited to a radius of three miles...

"Just getting the comrades ready for when CHINA takes over."

Well when China takes over they don't want any
Australians there. The Chi-Comm's plan is to get
rid of Australians before China totally colonizes
the Australia. They have the same plans for America.
I suspect COVID-19 is just a test run.

I’m with you. People would not only accept it, they’d cheer it and start turning in their neighbors for special surveillance if they had any pretext to do so. Say, a mention of a trip “too far away,” a complaint about mask wearing, etc.

‘They believe that those rights, which WE as Conservatives view as given by our Creator (and thus CANNOT be taken away by a government or person)...’

you’re joking right...? you really believe there is some threshold that a government won’t cross in order to establish tighter control on a populace because of some words written on a document...? every single thing you’ve worked for and think you own can be taken away from you, if a government and the courts decide a situation demands it, and there is nothing, nothing, that will stop them from doing so...

Aerial surveillance and face recognition technology - tools of authoritarians and totalitarians. Yes, for actual - which is to say, traditional - criminals who murder, rape, loot and burn, the technologies are appropriate. But for average citizens going about their business, this is nothing less than the imposition of a dictatorship.

If the Australian people have any self-respect, they’ll dump this government the first chance they get. If not, then welcome to East Germany, Aussies.

‘if a government and the courts decide a situation demands it, and there is nothing, nothing, that will stop them from doing so...’

I should edit my own post, and insert the following...

‘there is nothing, nothing that will stop them from doing so, if the people themselves are acquiescent to them doing so...’

Yes. I do believe that the Constitution our Founders created is workable. Because there are large parts of it that are not being observed is indeed a problem. I don't live under a rock, and I fear for my country.

I believe that the reason we are still here, some 230 years after the Constitution was agreed upon, is that we are a Republic of Laws. We are not a Republic of Men. We are a Republic of Laws, and the Constitution lays those laws out.

I believe that everyone should believe in God. Is that reality?

No.

I don't want to be a sinner. Am I one?

Yes. I don't want to do dumb, stupid, selfish, or cruel things, but I still manage to do them. Am I going to say "Well, I am human. That happens. I might as well embrace it"?

No.

I get up every day, I try to get closer to God, I try to be a better person, and I try not to be dumb, stupid, selfish and cruel. I try. And I fail. But I have principles, and I know right from wrong. So I strive to be right.

When I fail, I pick myself up the next day and try to do better. Every time. Because Reality and the Ideal are always two separate things. But even though at my age I STILL fail, I don't give up.

It is a Leftist trait to see that there is a gulf between the ideal and the reality of human imperfectibility...and to stop striving and embrace the imperfect behavior as a normal. That is what we see with homosexuality. That is what we see with crime.

However, I won't do it. Because my country is imperfect, it doesn't mean I am going to throw up my hands and hand it over to the Left.

Do you have another form of government you think we should instill?

Perhaps a government where conservatives get to make the rules and rule by dictat?

I doubt you would, otherwise you likely wouldn't be here on Free Republic, because I suspect you know that would result in tyranny just as well.

I doubt you meant your post as a surrender, but I think it could be mistaken by some as such a thing.

Fair enough, I did not see your addendum to your post until after I posted my response.

I agree fully with the statement: "...there is nothing, nothing that will stop them from doing so, if the people themselves are acquiescent to them doing so..."

I think we are in full agreement there.

Your addendum to your post shows that you and I see the same weakness, and the same threat to the country.

If we don’t enforce it...you are right.

It will then be a piece of paper.

Alexander Solzhenitsyn in “The Gulag Archipelago” waxed poetic about the quality and comprehensiveness of the Soviet Constitution (yes...they DID have one, and it WAS required by law to be available to anyone at any time...even those in the Gulags...for their review)

But to the Soviets...it was a piece of paper. Which we should be concerned about in the USA, because we are in danger of ending up like that...completely.
