Yes. I do believe that the Constitution our Founders created is workable. Because there are large parts of it that are not being observed is indeed a problem. I don't live under a rock, and I fear for my country.

I believe that the reason we are still here, some 230 years after the Constitution was agreed upon, is that we are a Republic of Laws. We are not a Republic of Men. We are a Republic of Laws, and the Constitution lays those laws out.

I believe that everyone should believe in God. Is that reality?

No.

I don't want to be a sinner. Am I one?

Yes. I don't want to do dumb, stupid, selfish, or cruel things, but I still manage to do them. Am I going to say "Well, I am human. That happens. I might as well embrace it"?

No.

I get up every day, I try to get closer to God, I try to be a better person, and I try not to be dumb, stupid, selfish and cruel. I try. And I fail. But I have principles, and I know right from wrong. So I strive to be right.

When I fail, I pick myself up the next day and try to do better. Every time. Because Reality and the Ideal are always two separate things. But even though at my age I STILL fail, I don't give up.

It is a Leftist trait to see that there is a gulf between the ideal and the reality of human imperfectibility...and to stop striving and embrace the imperfect behavior as a normal. That is what we see with homosexuality. That is what we see with crime.

However, I won't do it. Because my country is imperfect, it doesn't mean I am going to throw up my hands and hand it over to the Left.

Do you have another form of government you think we should instill?

Perhaps a government where conservatives get to make the rules and rule by dictat?

I doubt you would, otherwise you likely wouldn't be here on Free Republic, because I suspect you know that would result in tyranny just as well.

I doubt you meant your post as a surrender, but I think it could be mistaken by some as such a thing.

Your addendum to your post shows that you and I see the same weakness, and the same threat to the country.

If we don’t enforce it...you are right.

It will then be a piece of paper.

Alexander Solzhenitsyn in “The Gulag Archipelago” waxed poetic about the quality and comprehensiveness of the Soviet Constitution (yes...they DID have one, and it WAS required by law to be available to anyone at any time...even those in the Gulags...for their review)

But to the Soviets...it was a piece of paper. Which we should be concerned about in the USA, because we are in danger of ending up like that...completely.
