Ex-F.B.I. Lawyer Expected to Plead Guilty in Review of Russia Inquiry

WASHINGTON — A former F.B.I. lawyer intends to plead guilty after he was charged with falsifying a document as part of a deal with prosecutors conducting their own criminal inquiry of the Russia investigation, according his lawyer and court documents made public on Friday.

The lawyer, Kevin Clinesmith, 38, who was assigned to the Russia investigation, plans to admit that he altered an email from the C.I.A. that investigators relied on to seek renewed court permission in 2017 for a secret wiretap on the former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page, who had at times provided information to the spy agency. Mr. Clinesmith’s lawyer said he made a mistake while trying to clarify facts for a colleague.

Mr. Clinesmith had written texts expressing opposition to President Trump, who is sure to tout the plea agreement as evidence that the Russia investigation was illegitimate and politically motivated. Mr. Trump has long been blunt about seeing the continuing investigation by the prosecutor examining the earlier inquiry, John H. Durham, as political payback whose fruits he would like to see revealed in the weeks before the election.

Attorney General William P. Barr has portrayed Mr. Durham’s work as rectifying what he sees as injustices by officials who sought in 2016 to understand links between the Trump campaign and Russia’s covert operation to interfere in the election.

I see your point, but if I recall my European literature course correctly, wasn’t the deepest circle of Dante’s hell a place of cold?

Thank you for enduring the entire article for the rest of us. I started reading at para 21 as you indicated.

Got a smile out of that.

Maybe once the dust settles you can go back and enjoy the prior 20 paragraphs. On one level it's infuriating but on another level it's pure schadenfreude.

Although not YUGE, it is a start.
I expect there may be some larger fish in the coming weeks.

(Certainly not Obama, Biden, or Hillary -- they would be untouchable. Shouldn't be, but they are.)

Small fish got caught.

A lot of big fish are caught by using small fish as bait.

It may appear small but so does a crack in a dam when it first appears.

I will wait and see if the dam fails before passing judgement

>>Small fish got caught.<<
Listening to a couple of interviews with Barr, some comments by the president and conservative reporting...this is the beginning of something greater.

They begin with the smaller fish. Threaten large sentences in prison...then lighten it up a bit to hear them sing.

You might be right, and I admit that I'm an optimist by nature. But I've watched a lot of Barr, including the whole 4 hours of his testimony to Congress a couple weeks ago. If he's playing us he should get a lifetime achievement award from the Academy.

And last night he said:

Tomorrow there will be a development in the case. It's not an earth-shattering development, but it is an indication that things are moving along at the proper pace, as dictated by the facts in this investigation.

I have been as impatient at times as others regarding the pace of this investigation, but I have maintained faith that there would be a few people in the right places who would understand that, without rule of law, our nation and freedom could not survive. As a fighter and survivor, I cant get my mind to accept that evil wins over the majority of good people in this country. That hope continues to drive my faith that Barr and Durham were the right instruments chosen by Trump (with God providing a hand), at the right time, to deliver us from the likes of those who would be happy for us all to be slaves. I dont know if we will see the perp walks we all would like to see, but I am reassured by this today that justice is coming.

“The lawyer, Kevin Clinesmith, 38,”

Who?

Smallest of the small potatoes.

Yawn.

Adam Goldman wrote, “Attorney General William P. Barr has portrayed Mr. Durham’s work as rectifying what he sees as injustices by officials who sought in 2016 to understand links between the Trump campaign and Russia’s covert operation to interfere in the election.”

This is a bald faced lie and Goldman knows it. There was never an effort to understand links between the Trump campaign and Russia’s covert operation to interfere in the election. There was plenty of effort expended to CREATE the appearance of Russian interference that never existed.

It is so much fun to watch the New York Times chase its tail like a well trained dog.

This is the development that Barr alluded to last night on Hannidy? I agree with AG Barr, this isn’t earth shaking.

If God has not totally turned His face away from us then maybe our prayers for good things will be answered with “yes.”

To quote the late Rev. Billy Graham: “God always hears and answers every prayer. Sometimes his answer is ‘No’.”

He’s a small fish in DC.

I’ve never seen a picture of him, he doesn’t testify before Congress. He’s not in meetings deciding the direction of FBi or DOJ resources.

He’s just not.

You should, especially since it’s apparently what the almost 4 years of tick-tocking was all about. Small fish got caught.

Go back to sleep, Louie.

“injustices by officials who sought in 2016 to understand links between the Trump campaign and Russia’s covert operation to interfere in the election.”

This is troubling language. “sought to understand”? This was a setup, a fraudulent investigation, that set America back decades, by hamstringing the President during his entire first term.
