Democrats are contemplating secession and potential civil war as they game out possible scenarios for a closely contested election, according to a report by Ben Smith in a New York Times column Sunday.
The bulk of Smith’s column is devoted to the question of how the media will handle Election Night coverage, given that the result may not be known for weeks. Vote-by-mail, which many states have only recently adopted — ostensibly, to prevent the spread of coronavirus in polling places — could lead to an uncertain result.

In one scenario, John Podesta — the former chair of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, and a leading figure in party circles — played former Vice President Joe Biden, and refused to concede the election.
The result: the threat of secession by the entire West Coast, followed by the possible intervention of the U.S. armed forces:

I believe that the West Coast may decide to secede in Trump’s reelection victory. We need to send troops in lightning raids and arrest governors in their homes. Then airlift them in helicopters to a federal prison. If the federal government acts quickly, it would be possible to nip it in the bud.
Let the left coast secede and they can take the northeast with them. Any of the left wing loons in the other states can choose to move there and join them. Then we will finally get some peace and quiet in this country.
“If he loses, there will be a military coup to install a leftist regime anyway.”
Nonsense.
While they have no moral objections, American commies fear a fight. They are terrified of it.
I think I need to by guns. Any recommendations? I don’t have a clue.
Remember that the dems have been illegally organizing as the Western States Conference and the Eastern States Conference. Trump told them to knock it off and they went silent on it.
“California would be annexed by Mexico within 10 years.”
We’re gonna need a lot more border fencing.
There may be senior military traitors in the military, but I doubt they believe they have the following needed to accomplish their goals in that event.
Only around %50 would follow them, and likely none of the “special” forces. That doesn’t mean it’s implausible, but it’s not so simple a plan when you have a hundred million citizens armed who will resist the effort.
Ask the military how their war games went when they tried to subdue Americans with our armed forces.
No. We fought a Civil War over much bigger issues.
If they secede, kill them. A bayonet through the chest does wonders for re-aligning philosophical views.
So The Wall becomes a giant “L”? I LIKE it!

If they try to secede, those states will be in a state of rebellion. President Trump, exactly like President Lincoln, would be able to utilize the armed forces to stop that rebellion and bring the traitors who engineered the secession to justice...followed by public hangings.
Go for it, Gavin. Willing to gamble your life for a someone else’s fantasy scenario?
LOL, all those people who risked their lives to escape Mexico would be back in Mexico again.
First of all, we form The new State of Robinson. It includes all of District four of this map. Inyo, San Bernardino, Orange, Riverside, San Diego and Imperial. To those are added Mono, Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare, and Kern.
We move all the military on the Pacific coast south to Robinson and shut off their water in the south if need be.
California would be annexed by Mexico within 10 years.”””
More like 10 HOURS.
This is one reason while the election will be suspended. The case is being made through conservative media and well known personalties.
I am in Stanislaus, already sworn to Jefferson.
Thomas Jefferson’s Louisiana Purchase and James Polks’ vision of manifest destiny was the correct geopolitical vision for the US. Control of the west coast and the Mississippi basin to New Orleans is key to national security.
How do we control the Pacific without the west coast. As Jefferson recognized (about the Louisiana Purchase), as soon as the US does not control the land to its west and access to the seas, we become dependent on alliances with European powers (today Asian and/or European powers) to protect us.
Control of access to the Mississippi basin was the main reason the North opposed Southern Secession.
“Should the West Coast secede, there would likely be an armed revolt in northeastern California by those seeking to create a new state called Jefferson. The State of Jefferson movement has been around for decades.”
I do not think Jefferson would have any ports even close to what San Francisco, LA and San Diego have. Maybe I’m wrong about that and they could be developed along with rail access to them. But that’s the problem.
