Democrats are contemplating secession and potential civil war as they game out possible scenarios for a closely contested election, according to a report by Ben Smith in a New York Times column Sunday.
The bulk of Smith’s column is devoted to the question of how the media will handle Election Night coverage, given that the result may not be known for weeks. Vote-by-mail, which many states have only recently adopted — ostensibly, to prevent the spread of coronavirus in polling places — could lead to an uncertain result.

In one scenario, John Podesta — the former chair of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, and a leading figure in party circles — played former Vice President Joe Biden, and refused to concede the election.
The result: the threat of secession by the entire West Coast, followed by the possible intervention of the U.S. armed forces:

I don’t care who you are, that’s funny right there!
Full disclosure, I may or may not have lived in trailersville when I was young, although I do not believe I ranked high enough to get the double wide.....
More disclosure, my trailersville was in CA.
I did read it...
You had one state talk about.....
One of Podestas was involved the Democrat war games, that’s pretty high level....especially how involved they are at a national level....
“Throw some snot on the wall and see what kind of boogers form.”
LOL! Poetic.
Yes the Chinese would be invited in almost immediately. The fledgling nation of WestCoastUtopia would need Great Power protection. The Chinese would be there daring us to do something about it.

It would be a terrible thing for something to happen to your shiny new carrier over there, Xi...
The Federal Government would insist on keeping their property, remember Fort Sumter? The most they would get would be Commonwealth Status. They would lose representation and voting status but that doesn’t make them Independent.
I don't think San Francisco is even used as a port anymore.
If the state of Jefferson gets coastal access by acquiring Del Norte and/or Mendocino Counties, Eureka and Crescent City could be developed into ports. But even so, landlocked states like Nevada, Colorado, Utah and Idaho have done fine without access to the sea.
The field grades and general officers are more than "pretty liberal". Many of them are almost politically radical in thought. It's being drilled into them in the service and senior service schools. Those not liberal aren't selected to attend and end up being separated. This isn't your daddy's (or mine) army. They will gladly support what the media narrative is. They're scared sh!tless of a "not woke" accusation.
The left holds both coasts and most of the ports. Theyd also retain most of the Air Force and nearly all the Navy. The South lost the Civil War because its commerce was cut off. That might well happen in a second civil war with the same outcome. The west coast especially could probably count on Chinese and even Mexican aid. Europe too would be mainly sympathetic to to the seceding states. Russia and the Islamic world ditto. Unless the left could be crushed quickly they being more ruthless than the right would consolidate power in their areas very quickly and be able to put forces in the field more rapidly utilizing a more highly developed infrastructure.

No that doesn’t sound right, first is the Left secedes, the country under Republican control can secure Federal Property including seaports, military airbases etc. The Navy maybe a toss up but the air force would most likely be on the Red state side also it would be a lot harder to resign their commission to follow a couple of radical cities. Second as soon as the state legislatures pass secession the Federal Government would require plebiscites by county. The result would be states reconstituted as red states and the blue cities walled out losing state status but forced into commonwealth status. Losing Federal representation and participation in Federal elections.
I understand all that, believe me. The fact is however California governing legislature and executives and courts have chosen to set aside American Law where it doesn’t suit them. By disregarding the law, they have in effect left the union.
I know about red counties and fantastic California conservatives. Such great conservative Americans are the largest supporters of Free Republic in both numbers and funds. You have lost and can never regain control unless there is a massive earth quake that destroys San Francisco or LA.
So, the state having determined that it sneers at the federal government has in effect left. It still takes tax money but disregards large sections that are the real Americans. If the state is gone, then the real Americans are in effect California tax slaves having no say in their destiny.
“California would be annexed by Mexico within 10 years.”
I’d give it 10 weeks, max.
“Oh and yes, people who live there are no longer Americans.”
How Maoist of you. May I remind you that there are some very, very patriotic Americans still in those states, and they would not shirk from giving their last full measure of devotion to protect and defend the United States.
Being patriotic is irrelevant. Thinking American is irrelevant.
You are a citizen of a state that has in effect seceded from the American union and you are powerless to do any thing about it.
“You are a citizen of a state that has in effect seceded from the American union and you are powerless to do any thing about it.”
Bullshit.
If that really happened, my family and I would be out of the state within a day. We'd be living in our minivan for an unknown number of days (Weeks? Months?), but never in a Chinese-occupied area.
I'd rather starve to death than live under them.
Join us, of course. They are the real Americans.
They wouldn’t be immediately directly running things if invited in. They’d be “helping “.
“Oh and yes, people who live there are no longer Americans. Thats a tough pill to swallow but it is so.”
Bring it to me in person you loudmouth hick. I have a pill just for you that you won’t be able to swallow.
Mexico won’t want it.
I don’t think San Francisco is even used as a port anymore.
>>Oakland is a major port and its in SF Bay.
If the state of Jefferson gets coastal access by acquiring Del Norte and/or Mendocino Counties, Eureka and Crescent City could be developed into ports. But even so, landlocked states like Nevada, Colorado, Utah and Idaho have done fine without access to the sea.
>> They are fine because they have sea access through CA and rail and highway access to get there.
