Cops should never tolerate assault at a public event. The cops there became criminals who violated their sworn duty. Police take an oath to uphold the law, NOT TO OBEY UNLAWFUL ORDERS from superiors.

The Supreme Court found more than 30 years ago that the police have zero duty to protect anyone. They have continued to uphold it.
The police do not have to protect the victim of a murder in progress. Their only responsibilities are to investigate the crime afterwards and then maybe make an attempt to catch the criminal, but they aren’t required to do the latter.

Police commanders who refuse to obey orders risk their jobs and pensions.
Most cops are looking out for themselves these days. I will not give support nor sympathy to departments whose pension funds go bust.
