July 23A Glimmer on the Sea
At that time you were separate from Christ. . . . without hope and without God in the world.
Ephesians 2:12I lay on my bed full of stale liquor and despair, wrote journalist Malcolm Muggeridge of a particularly dismal evening during his work as a World War II spy. Alone in the universe, in eternity, with no glimmer of light.
In such a condition, he did the only thing he thought sensible; he tried to drown himself. Driving to the nearby Madagascar coast, he began the long swim into the ocean until he grew exhausted. Looking back, he glimpsed the distant coastal lights. For no reason clear to him at the time, he started swimming back toward the lights. Despite his fatigue, he recalls an overwhelming joy.
Muggeridge didnt know exactly how, but he knew God had reached him in that dark moment, infusing him with a hope that could only be supernatural. The apostle Paul wrote often about such hope. In Ephesians he noted that, before knowing Christ, each of us is dead in [our] transgressions and sins . . . . without hope and without God in the world (2:1, 12). But God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead (vv. 45).
This world tries to drag us into the depths, but theres no reason to succumb to despair. As Muggeridge said about his swim in the sea, It became clear to me that there was no darkness, only the possibility of losing sight of a light which shone eternally.
By: Tim Gustafson Reflect & Pray
What has been your darkest moment? In what places have you glimpsed the light that shines eternally?
Father, Youre the source of all my genuine hope. Fill me with Your light and joy.

Good evening, Mayor, and thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.
Finally made it through hump day. I wasn’t sure I would make it after yesterday’s problem from start to finish.
Hope your week is going well so far. Mixers coming along?

I imagine you’re about brain-dead after the past three days. I hope you’re able to get a much-needed good night’s sleep tonight.

Howdy, luvie.
It looks like y’all might have a shot at some rain this weekend. Probably some cooler temps with it.

Hi, radu! I thought it might rain this afternoon, but nope. it didn’t. It just teased us. I’m sooo ready for both rain AND lower temps! Maybe we’ll get some leftovers from the tropical storm heading for the Texas coast.
How’re things your way? Still hot and steamy? I hope you didn’t have to trek out into it today.

The tropical storm is what I was referring to. I didn’t know about it until the weather report tonight. Y’all could use the rain but I hope it doesn’t wreak a lot of havoc along the coast.
There’s another storm in the Atlantic that I’ll keep an eye on. It looks to be aimed at the Gulf. But if the high sitting over us doesn’t move out of the way, that could scoot into TX, too, or Mexico.
There were some pretty big rain showers and some thunderstorms in the area but they all bypassed us. But a couple were close enough to give us a little break from the heat with their outflow. And it clouded up, keeping the sun from baking us again, and that helped. Still steamy though.
Tomorrow is our best shot at some rain but it doesn’t look very promising for our area. :-(

Thanks Kathy! I really want to move to Alaska.
Sounds beautiful and so free.
Just have to get the border open again.
Please tell me why I moved to Canada?! LOL!
To: radu
Man! The rain is missing you too. That sux! Hope tomorrow is a better chance. Looks like the tropics are beginning to gin up. some energy. Even the big island of HI is supposed to get a hurricane....or at least the rain from one called Douglas.
