In his first official press briefing on the coronavirus pandemic since April, President Trump on Tuesday admitted that the public health crisis is likely to worsen as cases surge across the country and asked all Americans to wear masks in public.
While Trump hailed his administration’s response to the pandemic and the work toward developing a vaccine, he bluntly disclosed what many Americans already know: that the crisis is likely to spread more before it can be contained.
“It will get worse before it gets better,” Trump said of the pandemic that has infected close to 4 million Americans. “That’s something I don’t like saying but it is.”
Trump’s comments come after weeks where he either downplayed the virus’ continued spread or focused on other issues – from unrest over racial injustice in American cities to the removal of Confederate statues – despite cases of COVID-19 surging, particularly, in parts of the south and southwest.
Noting the concerns among many of his supporters that facial coverings impinge on their personal freedoms, Trump pleaded with Americans to wear masks out in public to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
“We’re asking everybody when you’re not able to socially distance to wear a mask,” Trump said.

It will be a cold day in Hell before I am vaccinated for this virus. I’m really not comfortable with my DNA being changed.
Anyway, I don’t need the dangerous vaccine. This virus isn’t a threat to me.
A) It isn’t changing your DNA. It isn’t going to turn you into a wombat or a unicorn or one of the lizard people. The leading vaccine from Oxford is a traditional gen1/gen2 vaccine. It presents a non-infectious virus with the SARS-CoV-2 antigens to the body so it can be destroyed and the immune system trained for future encounters.
The one from Moderna doesn’t alter anything either; it merely presents the instructions for building antigens to your body. Your body produces the antigens, your immune system recognizes them as foreign and destroys them. You build immunity as part of that process just as you would naturally. It’s like being exposed to the virus without the infectious parts of the virus.
But none of the vaccine candidates change your DNA. That isn’t what they do. That isn’t what any vaccine does. There would be no point in doing so. It would accomplish nothing. This isn’t a genetic abnormality that could possibly be corrected with such a thing. It’s a virus that your immune system needs to build immunity to.
B) There is no vaccine yet. There are over 140 vaccine candidates. There are 5 leading candidates including the Moderna vaccine candidate and the Oxford vaccine candidate. You’re claiming something is dangerous that doesn’t even yet exist.
C) The vaccine candidates are undergoing the exact same trials as any other vaccine does. President Trump has merely removed the bureaucratic red tape that normally holds up the process. Phase 1, phase 2, and phase 3 human trials are all ongoing. Phase 3 trials involve over 100,000 volunteers. The vaccine candidates are checked for both safety and efficacy, just as they always are.
Well, good for them. (sarcasm)
I prefer the Swedish way. No masks, no lockdowns and very little restrictions. They haven’t allowed a little chest cold to destroy their lives.
Herd immunity is the only answer. And NO MASKS OR VACCINES!

You can’t even say that definitively. Absolutely no consistency in the ways, means, methods of testing, statistics, data tabulation, instrumentation. It’s called “wild ass guess” with a veneer of statistical methodology thrown in to make it seem legit. It’s a great cauldron of misinformation, some intentional, some born of panic and stupidity. I am at best amused.
One can definitively say that the USA is between #7 to #11 based on variations in means, methods of testing and statistics.

Sweden already self-restricted. It has a low population density and 56% of its households are single person households (as compared to single digits in the USA).
Even then it has a death rate per million that is 6 times its Scandinavian neighbour’s rates/million.
Herd immunity will kick in only in 2022 or later. It takes time for a virus to spread through the community — look at the 1918-1919 flu.

I have been dealing with CDC professionally since 1974.
The decline has been slow but steady. A combination of leftist infiltration (not different than the rest of the government) and mission creep has produced what you see today.
Incompetent? More purposefully non-competent, bureaucrats ascendant, scientists out of management, bloat, make sure you can’t be blamed whatever happens.
It’s not the only place like this. The Navy is colliding with cargo ships and burning its own ships at the pier, I suspect anyone who dealt with the competent parts of the government in the past has a similar story to tell.
They are stretching and our concern trolls are biting...he is not proclaiming any federal requirement and while masks don’t help a person keep from catching the virus, they can lessen the area affected by a sick person. W/o the rest of the hygiene they are truly useless and it seems that folks have gotten tired of washing their hands and keeping their hands from their faces...we’re now on the road to herd immunity whether the Fauci’s of the world like it or not.
