Trump says coronavirus crisis will ‘get worse before it gets better,’ pleads with Americans to wear masks
Fox News ^ | 7/27/2020 | Andrew O'Reilly

In his first official press briefing on the coronavirus pandemic since April, President Trump on Tuesday admitted that the public health crisis is likely to worsen as cases surge across the country and asked all Americans to wear masks in public.

While Trump hailed his administration’s response to the pandemic and the work toward developing a vaccine, he bluntly disclosed what many Americans already know: that the crisis is likely to spread more before it can be contained.

“It will get worse before it gets better,” Trump said of the pandemic that has infected close to 4 million Americans. “That’s something I don’t like saying but it is.”

Trump’s comments come after weeks where he either downplayed the virus’ continued spread or focused on other issues – from unrest over racial injustice in American cities to the removal of Confederate statues – despite cases of COVID-19 surging, particularly, in parts of the south and southwest.

Noting the concerns among many of his supporters that facial coverings impinge on their personal freedoms, Trump pleaded with Americans to wear masks out in public to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

“We’re asking everybody when you’re not able to socially distance to wear a mask,” Trump said.

if they work at all. The rural areas should have agreements with other nearby places to send patients if they get overwhelmed

Trump did go silent on COVID for awhile which created the no leadership impression. I lay that on Pence. His managing of task force messaging has been abysmal.

“I’m wondering how folks are feeling about the new ask from our President on masks.”

He can ask. Legally required in most of Arizona, but it didn’t stop new cases (incubation time 5 days).

Ducey closed most bars and restricted some public gatherings on 29 June. It MAY be having an effect on total cases, although Arizona takes a week or more to process their numbers. Based on previous couple of months watching Arizona’s numbers, the closings may be having no effect too.

But the masks? I’d like to see some state that required masks and then saw a big drop in cases within 14 days!

Trump? I look forward to voting for him, but I disagree with some of his specific actions - such as wanting to eliminate the payroll tax, and the huge stimulus payments to everyone, etc. 1,000 times better than Hillary or China Joe, but Trump gets some things wrong. This is one of them.

Yes, all that should work.

I have been saying for ‘years’ that PDJT should sign an EO requiring everyone to inhale and exhale every few seconds.

We should lose quite a few of ‘them’ that are so defiant.

Like with the loud mouth. in your face. PRO abortion types, I have always thought it was a shame their parent(s) didn’t share the same ideas.

I have not seen anyone told, but there are people doing that here. Not in my town, where I think we are all rebelling, but in the one 10 minutes away.(Michigan) No one is telling the migrant workers to mask, that is for sure.

Good question. It may not matter. He is their strongest candidate. With him on the ticket, no way does Trump win PA. Guaranteed.

This is what more people need to hear. Has Trump or anyone in his admin been pounding that fact out that he streamlined the vaccine trials process? If he has I haven’t read or heard about it. Your post was the first I’ve heard of this.

That’s how you disingenuously describe what he did?

Like all of us, the President wears a mask when and where it makes over riding medical sense, primarily in heath care environments.

Unlike some of us, he’s not liable to be snitched upon by neighbors calling the police if he’s seen outside without a mask, whether he might have a medical condition to justify that or not.

You have failed to achieve the permanent indefinite universal global masking of all your lessers, Dr.

You may have to suffer some people’s smiles a while longer outside of the powergasming corruptocrat strongholds.

“America is not coming back. The chip is next.”

Agree. Unless there is another, miraculous reprieve like Trump was in 2016, this is it.

Let’s put to rest this urban myth that Pennsylvania has a slobbering love affair with Joe Biden.

He has not lived here in six decades. I don’t know anyone who has a particular fondness for him. Everyone knows he’d destroy the fracking industry and with it our economy. The votes he’ll get are from Pavlov-reflex D lever pullers (of which we have far too many).

Pennsyltucky is a pretty big place.

My husband travels from the Metro DC area to Central PA routinely - most recently one month ago.

He saw many Trump signs, all the way up.

No Biden signs.

(People who had Trump signs 4 years ago have even touched them up.)

Yeah, I assume we have other localities at our disposal.
But if the virus is still in those areas too?

Actually, I trust my neighbors to take precautions they think needed, and to be intelligent in doing so.
It’s a good feeling.

Wish the media was more interested in helping them with it’s coverage than in pleasing the marketeers.

He asked, he didn’t order, so I’m not sure how that infringes on anyone’s rights. The governors who are ordering their citizens to wear masks or face a fine are quite another story.

The main point that my former friend on Facebook pointed out was that Trump hasn’t worn a mask for months, and hasn’t dictated people to do it until now.

Nobody demanded that the endless, thousands-strong, PROTEST mobs had to mask-up either.

(In fact, I’ve heard that Covid ‘contact tracers’ in some areas aren’t even allowed to ask if someone testing positive has recently attended a protest. Would like to know if anyone else heard that, too...)
