In his first official press briefing on the coronavirus pandemic since April, President Trump on Tuesday admitted that the public health crisis is likely to worsen as cases surge across the country and asked all Americans to wear masks in public.
While Trump hailed his administration’s response to the pandemic and the work toward developing a vaccine, he bluntly disclosed what many Americans already know: that the crisis is likely to spread more before it can be contained.
“It will get worse before it gets better,” Trump said of the pandemic that has infected close to 4 million Americans. “That’s something I don’t like saying but it is.”
Trump’s comments come after weeks where he either downplayed the virus’ continued spread or focused on other issues – from unrest over racial injustice in American cities to the removal of Confederate statues – despite cases of COVID-19 surging, particularly, in parts of the south and southwest.
Noting the concerns among many of his supporters that facial coverings impinge on their personal freedoms, Trump pleaded with Americans to wear masks out in public to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
“We’re asking everybody when you’re not able to socially distance to wear a mask,” Trump said.

I assume you realize your response will be considered idiotic by anyone- and just don’t care.
I’ve never worn a mask despite my state’s mandate, but in some circumstances I would.
A free society is one where people can follow their conscience.
Not one where people have to follow ideologically created rules.
Sadly, not nearly enough I suspect.
...plus another famous example was Typhoid Mary. Who was an asymptomatic carrier of Typhoid living in her gallbladder, who spread it due to poor hand hygiene between using the toilet and preparing food for others.
Many many diseases spread via asymptomatic carriers, and only bring down the old/weak/unlucky. We don’t hear about them much in 1st world countries anymore, but they are still very common in the developing world.
I don’t consider his response idiotic. We may not all agree here but I respect his right to express his opinions. As I do yours.
Depends on where you live in Florida. The idiot RINO mayor of JAX issued a mask mandate but i just wear a bandanna over my mouth (Lol) when I enter a place because I don’t want to get the staff in trouble. And then it’s off because I’m at least 6 feet away from anybody and it’s their fault if they come closer.
On the other hand, this has had a terrible effect on the businesses that were just reopening for in person shopping, etc. People simply don’t want to be harassed and they don’t want to take the risk of having an unpleasant experience. So they’ll order on line and the heck with stores. They’re nearly empty up here. Lenny Curry has done his best to kill our economy.

I disagree with him about a fair amount of stuff, but I know his heart is in the right place and he loves America. I know there’s anti-Trumpers on this site. Hope you’re not one of them.

Yeah, we should all be as respectful as we can of each other or we won’t be fair.
We should assist in the baiting then by:
1) Pretending our support of him was wavering because he didn’t seem to be in favor of masks and that we were thinking of not voting for him because of this and now that he has come out with his pro mask comments we are going to vote for him and
a) saying as much in the comments sections on leftist sites
b) to people we know or suspect of being leftists
and/or
2) Pretending to be leftists and that we were for mask requirements but now think the crazy nut cases who went around saying they were dangerous just might have something there if Trump is for them and

the chaotic response. Fair or not all i hear is we have no leadership on the issue

I think we would see exactly the same transmission. I think masks do not help and may hurt particularly the way they are being used by the vast majority. Even if they did work the most they would do is shift the curve slightly. shifting the curve does not change the area under the curve it just spreads it out
It will magically disappear ONLY if Biden wins. If Trump wins they will double down on it.

Well, that may be important in the rural areas I see the virus going into now.
We don’t have a lot of capacity.
My most hopeful scenario is he gathered his medical team together and asked “What do you need to get this under control?” And they answered “More testing and have them wear masks for a few weeks”.
And hopefully he’s prepared to knock heads and start firing people if they don’t deliver.
