Sub-title: If you've ever wanted to tickle your brain, now is your chance.
Rite Aid came out with its do-it-yourself COVID-19 test in April. This is a viral test, meaning it will tell you if you have the virus. It is not an antibody test. And when Rite Aid first made the announcement, the test was only for those with COVID-19 symptoms. You had to fill out an online questionnaire to determine your eligibility. And I had no symptoms, so I wasnt eligible.
But just recently, Rite Aid changed its policy. Now, anybody can sign up for the test. And the test is free. There is no charge. So, knowing that people are always asking where and how they can get tested, I signed up. And, public interest aside, it would obviously be good to know if I have COVID-19, even though I feel fine.

I heard someone took the Rite Aid swab test-—turned out they’re distantly related to Elizabeth Warren and a Viking guy who came over before Columbus. (Just a joke)
I really imagine that sticking a swab way up into your nostrils can harm you. Am I wrong?
Well, the antibody test I would consider. The virus test is less than worthless. Covid-free this morning does not equal Covid-free this evening, so its value is questionable at best, misleading at worst.
Even if the test was painless it could only provide a false sense of security.

I think it caused Bidens dementia
I agree.
‘I really imagine that sticking a swab way up into your nostrils can harm you. Am I wrong?’
no...
but apparently what we can all do is infect someone by walking past them in a supermarket aisle with our noses uncovered...

Does it come with 37 bureaucrats in SUV’S, ankle monitoring anklets for the whole family, and a Biden for President yard sign?
Bad idea. A positive result here in KY could result in you and everyone you’ve been in contact with for the last 20 years being fitted in ankle monitors and placed under house arrest for two weeks. No way.
That is referring to antibody test; not the active infection test. The swab test is always the active test. And the specificity (from other coronavirus strains) of some of the new antibody tests is so close to 100% it can’t be differentiated.
I saw a mail-in blood-smear test available; but I wondered what would happen if one came up positive.
I agree. My state hasn’t resorted to ankle bracelets yet but I know the story...
Highly likely that is antibody test, not active infection test.
I will never submit to the test unless I have symptoms
Not because of the discomfort but because I do not want to be on some government list.
Really not much point in the test even if you have symptoms. There is no widespread specific treatment yet. If you have symptoms, stay home. If you can’t breath or extremely febrile hopefully someone will call an ambulance.
Our HR Dept is in touch with the GED squad at our county health office that fines us for non compliance with the question? They are holding meetings on the matter now with a promise of a 10 business day measure for an answer.
Make them gnaw on their own crap.
Yes, it could harm you. If you push that popsicle stick up your sinus cavity too far, or with too much pressure, you may puncture the mucous membrane and produce a nice Nose Bleed to fiddle with.
You are correct. I checked again, and it’s an antibody test.
It tells you if you have the virus
No, it doesnt.
It tells you that you have RNA from the virus in your nose. And before you get excited - remember, they recover DNA from Egyptian mummies and 12,000 year old mammoths from under the ice.
The SARS CoV 2 PCR is very, very good for diagnosis in a patient with symptoms in the context of a community epidemic.
The meaning of a positive PCR in someone with no symptoms and who does not develop symptoms in 14 days is completely unclear.
