PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The mayor of Portland demanded Friday that President Donald Trump remove militarized federal agents he deployed to the city after some detained people on streets far from federal property they were sent to protect.
“Keep your troops in your own buildings, or have them leave our city,” Mayor Ted Wheeler said at a news conference.
Democratic Gov. Kate Brown said Trump is looking for a confrontation in the hopes of winning political points elsewhere and to serve as a distraction from the coronavirus pandemic, which is causing spiking numbers of infections in Oregon and the nation.
Brown’s spokesman, Charles Boyle, said Friday that arresting people without probable cause is “extraordinarily concerning and a violation of their civil liberties and constitutional rights.”

As I understand it the Feds are there to protect Federal property such as the Federal Courthouse. Obviously the local police are not going to do it under the leadership of the mayor.

Why would a mayor of a city complain about help in trying to take back that city which has seen over $23M in damage to their main business district along with the chasing out of customers to which the downtown is going under and then the “leaders” side for the protection of criminals?

I honestly think the feds should have stayed out of Oregon and let them eat it and die financially and morally. It’s what they want. And they can eat the 10th amendment they stress along with it.

If the Feds are protecting federal ,property or pursuing and detaining subjects on federal charges, the state and mayor have no jurisdiction
Thats why In DC in May ( which does not look like Portland) hundreds of NG troops were sworn in by Barr as Federal Marshalls
The feds have a multiagency task sharing intel and tracking down the leaders who are directing violence ...that’s the job the tactical team “ snatchers” are doing...watch them work the scene, profile the organizers and quietly hustle them away for questioning and federal charges
Crossing state lines to incite violence is a fed charge

I live in Northern Virginia and there are all kinds of federal police here, such as Park Police - there are something like over a dozen different federal police agencies here and they all have the authority to pull me over for any reason - even on a local street. I don’t think they ever do, but they could if they wanted to, at least according to the Washington Post.

He held a sign that said, “I just want a place to call home. I’m sick of bad friends.... Get me out of here, please!”.
His sign just about sums up Portland for me. I hope someone steps forward to help him.

As for the legal issues, none of the arrests have been unreasonable or unwarranted. The latest video being hyped by media of a person being ‘kidnapped’ by ‘unmarked vehicles’ is actually an alleged arsonist and vandal, backed by video evidence. It’s no coincidence that those most vocal for defunding the police have a record or five.

There is no law I’ve seen that says LEO have to be in marked vehicles, can’t use rental vehicles, or that they have to give their names to people who want to add them to their cute little ‘stalk him and his family’ databases. The Marshalls have a duty to protect federal buildings from take-over, and that includes the sidewalk in front, emergency vehicle access, and possibly, at least 5 feet of the street adjoining the sidewalk. The feds also have a duty to protect the protestors against mass casualty threats attracted to the cover of riots.
‘press’ have to abide by lawful orders. Such as disburse, no trespassing, no interfering with arrests, no participating in or encouraging rioting. Press who are active participants are not press, they’re just livestreamers looking for handouts with a vested interest in keeping things stirred up.
Either the protestors and the media and the governorship of Oregon are completely ignorant of how law agencies work, and the dangers inherent in long-term rioting. Or they are drama-queening in order to incite even more violence towards city and federal employees to achieve political points and blame-shame. From a pared-down core mob that is tending, just like Seattle, towards group psychosis, with many of the posters self-identifying as having existing issues, but are drawn to the ‘commraderie’ and dreams of ‘revolution’.
hashtags pdxprotests and portlandprotests are eyeopeners on the complete lie that the protestors are peaceful and the response by leo is unwarranted.
