Supreme Court hands Trump administration win on deportation powers
FOX News ^ | 06-25-2020 | By Ronn Blitzer

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday for the Trump administration in a key immigration case, determining that a federal law limiting an asylum applicant’s ability to appeal a determination that he lacked a credible fear of persecution from his home country does not violate the Constitution.

The ruling means the administration can deport some people seeking asylum without allowing them to make their case to a federal judge. The 7-2 ruling applies to those who fail their initial asylum screenings, making them eligible for quick deportation.

In a decision in the case of Dept. of Homeland Security v. Thuraissigiam, the court ruled that the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) – which prevents judicial review of the credible fear determination – does not violate the Constitution’s Suspension Clause, which protects habeas corpus privileges that allow courts to determine if a person should be released due to unlawful detention.

Kagan and Sotomayor can be counted on in almost every SCOTUS case to vote against both the rule of law and common sense. They have become partisan legislators instead of impartial jurists.

Finally, a win of sorts.

after Trump schlonged Hillary

That's totally disgusting thought. President Trump has our most beautiful ever 1st Lady. Even back when he was a horny teenager, he would have never "schlonged' such a skank.

Vince Foster made that mistake, and look what she had done to him.

I used that phrase because the Lefties hated it - and mainly because they hate Trump and he has used that language. It isn’t meant to be taken literally (if, that is, “schlonged” is actually a word, which I don’t believe is the case).

‘bout time the SCOTUS came to their senses. 7-2, not bad.

"I think it’s a lot worse than that. Every June we sit around waiting for the decrees of the philosopher kings on the issues of the day. It’s a disgusting affront to the republic."

We are a nation of laws. Someone has to decide controversies about the law. That's what courts do. Some controversies make to the highest court, and they make a decision. I don't what alternative you have in mind.

It’s a political court, there are liberals and there are conservatives, Mr. Roberts should know this.

The other two actually *agreed* but wanted to make a point that this decision should only apply to this law and should not be construed as precedent for other laws. Thus in terms of the actual issue, it was 9-0.

Ummmmm, Kagan and Sotomayor were in the majority, not the dissenters. Have you checked your meds lately?

See post 31 - technically ALL of the Justices did. And you’re a bit wrong on what the law does, it actually denies illegal aliens rights they claimed they had.

See post 31. It basically was a 9-0 decision except two just wanted to say that it wasn’t to be used as a precedent for other laws.

Whoops, for some reason the Kagan/Sotomayor part didn’t load when I read the article the first time. Sorry and never mind.
