The thunderous sound of fireworks their blasts sudden, deafening and often terrifyingly similar to gunfire have reverberated throughout the Bay Area in recent weeks.
Residents in the big cities and even in the quieter suburbs report the explosions started over Memorial Day weekend and have persisted through June, waking them in the night, interrupting their babies' naps and scaring their pets.
Fireworks packaging has been found around Lake Merritt in Oakland, and Nextdoor boards and Twitter are filling up with news of the booms and bangs in San Francisco.
"Im losing my mind," said SF resident J. Barry. "Were in South Bernal and its been super challenging for us. We rescued a dog at the start of quarantine, and shes obviously not responding well to all of this, nor are our 4- and 6-year-old children. The M80s or M1000s are nothing short of heart stopping. One went off last night at 2:30 a.m. and shook our house, windows, ceiling fans. Our family of four was all up for about two hours trying to calm down. So we are all a mess today."
In Hayes Valley, someone posted a sign to a post reading, "Whoever is setting firecrackers in the neighborhood at night, please stop. It's freaking out all our dogs and they're terrified of the loud noises."
One Twitter user in San Francisco reported the fireworks are sometimes so loud that car alarms go off and apartment windows rumble.
The pyrotechnic activity mostly occurs at night, sometimes into the early morning hours. A Twitter user commented that the Palo Alto fireworks usually run from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. nightly.

Pellets mark your targets. I prefer the Sheridan air rifle.
Always glad to help. ;-)

Oh the humanatee........ a rescue dog seems to cower in fear of fire works. the fear is projected from the cowardly pissed off rescuer to the rescued.
It’s San Francisco where a great earth quake is sorely needed to shake things up
Good morning everyone. Philly girl here. Last night was also the first night that the fireworks slowed down. The past 3 weeks have been intolerable for every neighborhood including the suburbs. I live two blocks from a lovely historic park by the Delaware River and it is heartbreaking to see the destruction these fireworks maniacs have wrought to a beautiful green space. Litter every square inch. I imagine that even our moronic city council critters are fatigued from having interrupted sleep and the police may be cracking down. And before you tell me that we deserve it for being a liberal city I can assure you that there are plenty of hard working, law abiding conservatives here who are under siege and plotting there way out. I know that I am one. Fireworks are just one more reason to get outta Dodge because it’s never going to end as long as the new law stands making it legal to purchase them.
They will be green-lighting themselves and we will finally be able to take care of business.
Lawlessness in Democrat cities. Even in the 66th largest market, the capital of NY, Albany, the night shootings and murders are skyrocketing. And unlike getting Covid, none of the murder victims recover.
8 million cameras in NYC and no one can get pics of whos setting these things off?

Plus ShotSpotter and available drone grids can be used.
Perhaps the perps are already recorded and logged for later pickup and packaging.
The OLD version of the Boy Scouts motto “Be Prepared” is still good advice.
You need a federal explosives license to get your hands on commercial grade fireworks. The requirements include a location to store fireworks before they are used and interviews from BATFE agents before you can get a license. I'm pretty sure BLM would not not qualify to say the least as I don't they could convince anyone they are putting on legitimate fireworks shows.
I read the article and it just says "aerial mortars". That doesn't really mean anything. At this point unless we see evidence then it's safe to say these are just consumer fireworks being used for vandalism.
What I don't think people understand here is fireworks used in public displays are "explosives" and they are very controlled for obvious reasons. I'm sure some slip through the cracks here and there but it's quite rare I'm sure.
Its happening in my little town on the edge of Orange County, CA.
