Celebrities, public figures and fans alike have signed a petition to replace a Tennessee statue of a KKK leader with one of Dolly Parton, a native of the state and a beloved pop culture figure.
The online petition has collected over 16,000 signatures and calls for the states officials to honor a true Tennessee hero, Dolly Parton. The page continues saying, Tennessee is littered with statues memorializing Confederate officers. History should not be forgotten, but we need not glamorize those who do not deserve our praise.
The statue in question resides in the Tennessee Statehouse and represents Nathan Bedford Forrest, a Confederate general, slave trader and KKK leader.
In December, petition author Jeremy Faison told the Tennesseean, If we want to preserve history, then lets tell it the right way. How about getting a lady in there? My daughter is 16, and I would love for her to come into the Capitol and see a lady up there Whats wrong with someone like Dolly Parton being put in that alcove?
Celebrity residents of Tennessee, Taylor Swift and Reese Witherspoon, have both publicly called for the removal of the statue. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and actor Henry Winkler are among the public figures supporting the movement for a statue of Parton to replace that of Forrest.

Well, I can think of two reasons Dolly deserves a statue.
Seriously, she’s a country virtuoso.
Dolly’s small feet are caused by her big hits.
Nothing grows well in the shade.
Only two?!!
Nope. Byrd is one of them. On second thought , they will but it will be further down the line when they start eating the appeasers. once they pick the low hanging fruit they go to the next low hanging branch. And so on and so on until only one is left standing.
Thanks for that info.
If Cruz were on FR he would probably be commenting without reading the article.
George Wallace was one of them too, a lifelong Demonrat.
Dolly has done and continues to do many good works. Her efforts after the massive forest fire in Eastern Tennessee alone deserve a statue. Her support of the research to bring back the American Chestnut are also deserving of a monument.
lol lol
The problem is you can find fault with anyone specially with the current positions of the people who are calling for the statues to come down. They have a lot of nerve calling out others from the past.
Exactly. All fall short. I recommend that we replace every statue that they want to come down with a statue of Jesus Christ. For some reason, I think that idea won’t get anywhere. Not that statues of Christ are particularly something that is desirable.
They’ll need a 2nd and 3rd pedestal to distribute the weight properly.
Speaking of the KKK

Replace with a statue of Dolly Parton and Ted Cruz engaged in sexual activity.
On the flip-side, pigeons could nest in her cleavage.
My favorite “Dolly-ism”: “It costs a lot to look this cheap.”
Btw, during The Texas Wagon Train in 1986 she was asked by one of the cowgirls what her bra size was & responded, “34FF”.

There’s not enough concrete.
Nathan Bedford Forrest did not found the KKK. It was already around when he took over. As soon he saw how radical it was becoming, he disbanded it. It reformed as the Klan we all know a couple of decades after he died. He was also one of the earliest proponents of affirmative action.
“ one of the earliest proponents of affirmative action.”
But for genetic inferiority (the Dem view) or for cultural change?
