For the love of God, Mr. President, PLEASE don’t endorse this medication.
Great news for people on respirators or even just supplemental oxygen. First treatment that appears to have positive effects on some of the very ill.
Its amazing to me — touted as a new breakthrough, we have used steroids in the treatment of ARDS for a long time (over 20 years). Those who I have treated have received this medication — this is clearly something most intensivists know.
The only interesting thing is that using decadron appears to be better than hyrodcortisone or solumedrol.
I dunno...is it Trump approved? :D
From what I heard, it reduces deaths by 35% for those on ventilators, 20% for those needing some O2, and no effect for other cases. So, not a general purpose solution, but still good news.
p
I like that there are many many patients, but, I still dont understand fully.
Are they saying it only saves 1 in 8 on Ventilators? Does that mean 7 still die?
It’s cheap? It will be outlawed. See HCQ.
Yeah, after Oxford did a hydroxi-only trial to try to discredit it.

They need years of testing /s
This is great news.
It’s another medicine for attacking the cytokine storm the immune system creates trying a massive overwhelming attack on the virus, which winds up being a massive inflammatory attack on all sorts of internal tissues.
Currently used steroids, already doing the job in severe Wuhan Virus cases, are maybe more expensive or not as good as Dexamethasone.
However, Dexamethasone could suddenly become less inexpensive as demand for it increases globally, to treat Wuhan Virus cases.
And, what was not mentioned about the study promoting the use of Dexamethasone is whether or not the patients that did not get Dexamethasone simply also got no other steroids. We already know use of steroids is the way to quiet the cytokine storm and that is already being done.
I’m wondering how much one of the makers of the currently cheap Dexamethasone promoted the study and the Reuters article. It would be a good way to get its retail price up.
Oh my. Here we go again.
Dexamethasone reduced deaths by one-third in ventilated patients
...............
and by one fifth in other patients receiving oxygen only
.............
There was no benefit among those patients who did not require respiratory support.
No telling how many years it will take to get approved for this use.
I am convinced I had COVID-19 in late December having all the symptoms including respiratory distress serious enough for me to seek treatment in the ER. While I was not hospitalized, I continued to have respiratory difficulties and laryngitis for several weeks. My doctor eventually prescribed steroids and that greatly relieved my symptoms. I am not surprised by these reports.
Look out!... Big Pharma and the FDA will be poo-pooing it before sundown.
Ping thing.
