Amid winds of change as America confronts its race issue, a reparations resolution dismissed by many as the stuff of dreams was unanimously passed by a Chicago City Council committee Friday and is scheduled to go before the full council June 17.
The resolution would establish a “Chicago Citizens of African Descent Reparations Commission” to investigate how one of the most segregated cities in the nation could best make amends for the impact of slavery.
Up for discussion by the Committee on Human Relations Thursday, black and Latino aldermen called the resolution timely and necessary, in the aftermath of the cellphone-recorded killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis and protests that grew violent as they unfurled across the nation, triggering a collective discourse over institutional racism.
In November, the city of Evanston made history with groundbreaking legislation establishing a $10 million reparations fund to make amends to that north suburb’s black population for historic wrongs traced to racial inequities — through a cannabis sales tax.
“Today is a great day for the city of Chicago and the nation. The committee voted to address the lingering impact of injustice, cruelty, brutality and inhumanity of the Transatlantic Slave Trade on descendants of slavery,” said Willie Wilson, the former mayoral candidate and influential businessman who has funded reparations efforts in Chicago and Springfield.

How many cannabis shops does Evanston have? If you tax them heavily those shops will be displaced by cheaper stuff coming from elsewhere. This already happens in cigarettes. I live near St Louis and Middle East types here deal in moving low tax cigarettes from St Louis to Chicago where cigarettes are taxed heavily. You can see the Middle Easterners buy shopping carts full of cigarettes at Sams, although most of the cigarettes are laundered through convenience stores they control. They guys could expand into cannabis. Occasionally they get busted and the perps have names like Omar, Mohammad, Ibid, Abu, Ismael,Etadm, Nasar, etc.
What should happen is all income from all African/Americans should be confiscated then placed into a pool which is then equally divided among those from whom it was taken, thus equalizing income. I’m sure the billionaire and millionaire blacks would appreciate this effort.
All that loot they got off with is more then enough reparations for people who never came close to being slaves or knew anyone who was a slave or had ancestors back 4 generations who were slaves.
They should go back to Africa for reparations where their very own ancestors rounded them up and sold them into slavery.
I have always said.... try to collect reparations from white folks who never owned a slave and you will get a CIVIL WAR.

“Reparations” is a word that should NEVER be spoken out loud.

There is only one problem with that. You don’t get to pick and choose which black is going to be in your midst. You have to take the whole “bell curve”.
So you’re left with only two options - constantly submit to all their demands including licking their feet, or separation. End this dysfunctional marriage.
Some things can only be solved by war.

The day of the pinata will soon be upon us, when demands for reparations start getting louder and louder.
I think you and I will have to disagree on that.
I simply treat people as leftists and non-leftists, and they encompass all colors and genders.
In that light, if it ever comes to civil war, it is going to be messy, because there aren’t state lines to separate them, churches where they may or may not congregate in, etc.
Leftists and non-Leftists are going to be all intermingled, and THAT is a problem.
Granted, civil war is THE problem, but...there won’t be a Mason-Dixon Line if it ever comes to that.
Blocked interstates leading into the cities will starve them out.

Interestingly too, in the Rwanda Genocide, where the Hulus were largely slaughtering the Tutsis, a black US reporter who wrote a great book about it thought he would be safe, being American AND a black man, so he was in the middle of it.
Until he found to his dismay that much of the violence was perpetrated on the basis of certain physical attributes attributed to one tribe or the other, and in his genetic makeup, he had the wrong physical attributes from somewhere in his past.
He was definitely a black man who “got mugged” and viewed America quite differently when he returned to it.
As far as I am concerned, any town or city being either a sanctuary city, a police free city, or a city demanding government money for things like this SHOULD be isolated with fences built around them.
Not only to keep the people in (particularly the ones making policy) who elect them, but to keep their bad elements from lawful society.

It doesn’t have to be an either/or. The left/right devide is definitely a big source of societal grief, but so is the racial devide. Religion can also create a rift.
Regarding our racial problem, it is my firm belief that two groups of people with significantly different AVERAGE IQ and whose members can be easily identified as belonging to one or the other group will never be able to peacefully coexist together.
Thing about it for a moment. Assuming there was absolutely no discrimation and jobs and grades were strictly assigned on the basis of merit. Which group would end up with the more menial jobs? Which students would do the worst at school? And how do you think the group with the worst performance would react to such realities?
And isn’t that what we’ve been seeing for decades?
In the Middle East the darkest skinned Arabs or those who have African features are treated like second class citizens by their “Muslim brothers.”

The closest parallel is probably the Spanish Civil War.
