Help Request - Fact Checking Liberal Talking Points

Posted on 06/06/2020 5:21:11 PM PDT by GraceMitchell

My daughter used to be a conservative until she went to college. It has been less than a year, and she's now using liberal talking points in all her political debates with me. Yesterday she sent me an article titled "The Treason of the Ruling Class" by Chris Hedges (I can't link it here due to a FreeRepublic's restriction). I have made it my mission now to try to research and provide my daughter with facts because she doesn't get them from the websites that she's visiting.

I have been reading FreeRepublic for years, but this is my first time posting. I'd appreciate it if you could please point me to resources that can help disprove the following claims:

1. "1,100 citizens are murdered by police every year, almost an unarmed." This claim is in stark contrast with what Tucker Carlson claimed a few days ago in the segment "Is America being torn apart by a total, complete but provable lie?"

2.(About our prison system) Lobbyists are "making sure these bodies remain in cages or are put back into cages soon after they are released."

3.Where do I go to find how much congressmen/women were worth before and after their tenure.

4. Our court system is "designed to railroad the poor into jails and prisons." I was wondering how this is being done. It seems like personal responsibility is not accounted for here.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I think the actual problem is between populists and globalists. Populists have been split into right (Trump supporters) and left (Bernie supporters), which serves the interests of neither, but is a handy way for the globalist uniparty to stay in power. It sounds like your daughter has populist leanings.

You are not alone. Get together with your friends who also have children in college and see what they have to say about what is happening in the colleges as to indoctrination by the professors.

I think the posters who have suggested having your daughter ride along with an urban police officer or taking her to spend a day at an urban municipal courthouse have the right idea, but both options may be difficult right now with the social distancing policies and riots. Even without these, you may feel it is too dangerous for your daughter to be in such environments.

I don’t know where you live, but I live in a large suburb of a large city that has a very tranquil middle to upper middle class section and a smaller rough section south of our little downtown. Our police department offers ride alongs. I don’t know what kind of educational value our municipal court offers for the the parents in our town in your predicament since I have never been to our court. Check into what your own town offers if there is a rough section to it.

You don’t have to answer this of course, but how much do you pay toward your daughter’s tuition?

You can tell her in essence, she’s right, you thought about it, and families like your own need to check their privilege. What that means to you, you can say, is that you will no longer be funding her education and the money you would have spent on tuition is now going to go toward a donation to some sort of black and or urban cause. Let her choose from a list of three possibilities.

Then go research possibilities and present her with three causes that you are willing to give your money to. One “cause” could a trust fund for that black federal officer who was killed in CA. I don’t know if he had kids or not.

Another cause could be a private school for black underprivileged children that actually might be quite conservative in bent. A third cause might be some sort of meals-on-wheels type program that helps seniors in cities hit hard by the riots. You get the idea.

Sorry to keep posting back, but #1 reminds me of something I dealt with when I was 19. An ex with undiagnosed paranoid schizophrenia. Nobody else wanted to deal with him, including his family, they scattered like rats. He was threatening to kill me and was attempting to fight very large men, who mercifully figured something wasn’t right and walked away. The police managed to bring him in without anyone getting hurt, but I know that isn’t always the case. Some of those statistics might be situations like that, so don’t be too quick to judge without more information. That said, I’m very sad that Floyd died the way he did.

Here's my reply.

1a. There were 10.3 million arrests in year 2018 (latest year we have data for, and down steadily from 14.4 million in 2006). https://www.statista.com/statistics/191261/number-of-arrests-for-all-offenses-in-the-us-since-1990/

1b. 1,536 killed by police per year (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_killings_by_law_enforcement_officers_by_country). Even if all of them were unjust, we're still talking about 99.99% of arrests have no killings. Only 0.01% have a killing, and that includes both the just and the unjust.

Girl, are you expected to be 99.99% perfect in all of your decisions, even though virtually none of your decisions are life and death type decisions like cops face every day?

Congratulations on being a full-fledged Freeper. I see you created a user account today.

Another thought occurred to me.

Do you know someone who is black and who originally came from the inner city that your could get to talk to your daughter?

Someone in our church.

Does someone in your church know such a person?

I recommend that you show her the PragerU channel at YouTube, and ask her to watch one video (of her own choosing) every day for a month:

Here's the link:

That’s surprising, because I’m not a WaPo subscriber. Did you actually click through?

I don’t know your arrangement with her, but if you’re paying for her “education”, STOP. Don’t set yourself up for explaining your values for the next 10+ years. If it means you have to opt out of cosigning for her student loans, and it can be done, DO IT.

These institutions have no right to undermine the parents of their students and if you continue to sign the checks, you’re part of the problem.

You can kindly announce that you’re not getting value for the money you’re paying, but are willing to finance a local community college or technical school. Trust me, she’ll get over it.

And if she objects, you tell her to finance the propaganda on her own dime.

This is a really good interview with Bob Woodson, a civil rights veteran:

How the Tragic Killing of George Floyd Has Been Exploited: Bob Woodson

You need to watch it, and then recommend it to your daughter.

4. Our court system is “designed to railroad the poor into jails and prisons.” I was wondering how this is being done. It seems like personal responsibility is not accounted for here.

Putting extremely high bail on non-violent, non-repeat suspects, knowing they can’t afford it, thus keeping them in jail - that is systemic racism - simply because it gives the poor (of ANY color) the inability to ‘bond out’. So, they stay in jail until court. All the while, giving the rich a relative easy way to ‘bond out’, and go back to their daily lives (for the most part).

There are recruiting quotas for colleges and universities where they HAVE to admit, by law, to have X% of black men, X% of black women, X% Asian, etc. Again, systemic racism - because you are, by law, giving perks across the board to one group over another.
