George Floyd had ‘violent criminal history’: Minneapolis police union chief

The head of the Minneapolis police union says George Floyd’s “violent criminal history” needs to be remembered and that the protests over his death are the work of a “terrorist movement.”

“What is not being told is the violent criminal history of George Floyd. The media will not air this,” police union president Bob Kroll told his members in a letter posted Monday on Twitter.

Floyd had landed five years behind bars in 2009 for an assault and robbery two years earlier, and before that, had been convicted of charges ranging from theft with a firearm to drugs, the Daily Mail reported.

That may be true— no doubt is true— but Chauvin has had his own professional conduct issues which need to blow back on the police establishment and the city government. Has that happened yet?

That does not change that the policeman killed him.

Exactly. The proper way to punish criminal wrongs is arrest and prosecution, not what happened to Floyd.

And yes, I'm aware he wasn't asphyxiated. But continuing to kneel on him long after he was subdued was not justifiable, and clearly could be a health risk if the person's medical system is otherwise compromised. The possibility of strokes, heart attacks, seizures, etc., are exactly why you don't put that kind of extended stress on someone when they are no longer resisting.

They were terminated without due process,” Kroll wrote.

That is a true statement.

Odd - Rush was gushing over Floyd yesterday, saying what an absolutely great guy he was. He was (suspiciously) murdered, and the officer needs to face the music, but Floyd being remembered as a saint is not correct. He also had children who didn’t even know who he was until he died. Kind of a messy life.

Floyd’s criminal history just means he won’t be missed very much. He’s turned out to be one of the most expensive miscreants this country has had in a long time — at least since George W. Bush.

“That does not change that the policeman killed him.”

That is exactly right. Intelligent people can separate these things. It is not George Floyd vs cop and one has to take sides. Both were bad and both should be held accountable for their actions.

Floyd is dead and the cop will end up dead in a prison yard if he lasts that long. It all works out.

It's actually a predictable story -- going all the way back to the saga of Horst Wessel in Nazi Germany.

Brutal totalitarian uprisings usually have pathetic "martyrs" for their cause.

Or possibly if the cop would have gotten off the mans neck before killing him, that would have been helpful as well.

His prior criminal history isn’t pertinent to what happened. It looks like an after the fact attempt to smear the guy and mitigate the wrongdoing on the part of the cop. His criminal activity from more than a decade ago simply isn’t relevant to anything that makes this newsworthy.

Either you think we ALL should have the same rights or you like what the rioters are doing
We are a nation of laws and due process.

he died at the hands of a police officer... what is your proof he was a dirty cop.

Read your own post.

“mr floyd was killed by a cop’s arrogance and need to exert dominance “

Stop being obtuse. That’s dirty in my book.

His past MAY have something to do with it. If he was a known and chronic problem in the community, would steal, and was high, I’d say that’s pertinent, but not an excuse.

This isn’t a court.

Floyd’s history can, and should, be examined.

Go to youtube and do some searching. It’s not long before you see plenty of cops using the knee to the neck. As I’ve said before, you can’t suffocate or choke someone with pressure only to the back of the neck. I thought FReepers were free thinkers as well.
