And so, for the first time during the COVID-19 pandemic, North Carolina farmers have had to start euthanizing at least 1.5 million chickens, a state agriculture official told the News & Observer, calling the measure a "last resort."
Most meat plants in North Carolina and nationwide won't disclose just how may of their employees have contracted coronavirus, but the close-packed working conditions have turned the facilities into disease hotspots since the early days of the pandemic.

They sure are.

Am I to understand a six month long appointment to get your beef processed??
sorry but the media wants us to live in fear. I will not do so.
I went to a local grocery outlet here today; they wanted $10.89 a pound for cube steak. A pack of two T-bones was $31 and change. The price of chicken and pork seemed to be holding steady. But, like I said, it’s a locally family-owned market, a number of off-branded goods. You really have to perform due diligence like check origin and sell-by dates on everrything, including canned goods. It can be hit or miss.
Per the National Chicken Council, here is the U.S. Broiler Production over the past few years - 1 chicken is about 10 pounds (including bones).
(Federally inspected plus non-federally inspected/less condemnation)
Year | Production | Change FromPrevious Year |
---|---|---|
Million pounds ready-to-cook basis. | percent | |
2009 | 35,131 | -3.8 |
2010 | 36,515 | 3.9 |
2011 | 36,804 | 0.8 |
2012 | 36,643 | -0.4 |
2013 | 37,425 | 2.1 |
2014 | 38,137 | 1.9 |
2015 | 39,620 | 3.9 |
2016 | 40,260 | 1.6 |
2017 | 41,217 | 2.4 |
2018 | 42,145 | 2.3 |
2019 | 43,435 | 3.1 |
2020 Estimated | 45,582 | 4.9 |
If 1.5MM birds = 15MM pounds (let's be conservative and include the bone weigtage), that'd be 0.03% of expected production in 2020.
Yeah....I think we'll be ok.
Gates doesn’t want you eating meat so he thinks he can force you to consume his crap.
WOW!!!! I wasn’t expecting it to be that little.
thanks
Chickens can be replaced in three months.
Cattle take three years.
And there are a lot of cattle going into the landfills.
Me, too. It’s always helpful, for those of us who think chicken come from the Lord complete with styrafoam and that little diaper to soak up the juice, to look at the interwebs.
Darn shame. Hate to see that.
> We got 2 heifers to feed and we bought a 1320 Lb finished beef...
How much beef do the heifers eat in a day? /jk
lol
Hmmm! like Windows. When done defecating Bill still owns the product. under licence.
Does this looney writer realize how insignificant 1.5 million chickens are?
How About;
“The Road”
.
Hint,
Cannibals.
1.5 million chickens sounds like a lot, until you consider that is 1/10 of a chicken per NC resident.
Costco’s meat section is drastically down in their selection. There is lots of empty space for their beef cuts on their meat tables. I heard that Brazilian beef will be imported.
where are cows being dumped? hogs and poultry yes due to processing shutdowns, but cows?
Not afraid at all. We’ll be doing plenty of fishing, swimming and other outdoor activities.
For now, we’re doing spring maintenance with our redneck friends and neighbors: cars, trucks, home utilities. Dug up a water line and fixed it. Neighbor got a groundhog a few days ago. Word has it, that he missed a little and gut shot the critter with a small bore revolver. They said that it was actually screaming and holding its stomach before finishing it. Reportedly the funniest thing they ever saw.
Oh...and stock up on rifle and pistol ammo. That stuff will be gone for sure.
It’s good to prep. Large freezers and extra canned goods are essential for anyone with space for storage. That way, fake news or not, we’re ready.
