Top Pentagon officials late Sunday blasted The New York Times for a Memorial Day weekend editorial that criticized the military for naming bases after Confederate generals.
The piece, titled Why Does the U.S. Military Celebrate White Supremacy, ran in Sundays print edition of the newspaper. It argued that it is time to rename bases for American heroes not racist traitors.
The editorial singled out Georgias Fort Benning, North Carolinas Fort Bragg and other installations

Fort McClellan has a special place in my heart - it was the Military Police Center and School when I was on active duty.
McClellan was an excellent administrator, but was not an aggressive battlefield commander. I believe it was McClellan to whom Lincoln said, "General, if you're not going to use my Army, may I have it back."
Still - the McClellan saddle which he designed (M1859) after extensive tours of European Cavalry schools has the distinction of being the US military's longest serving isue item in unbroken, continued service since 1859 (albeit now primarily by ceremonial units). The USMC officer's Mameluke Sword was originally adopted in 1825, but was not authorized for official uniform wear between 18591875.
True to form. After the Civil War, all NYC newspapers wanted Jefferson Davis released from prison. Only the NY Times wanted him tried for treason.
Salmon P. Chase refused to give Davis a treason trial fearing Davis might prove secession legal and the Union as the aggressor in the war.
For the NYTimes, it's twofer. They got to piss on the military during Memorial Day and piss on the South.
Celebrating history?!?
The NYT is in the business of rewriting history.
Check out the 1619 Project.
They’d like something like Ft. Bergdahl
How about Ft. Sickles?
Don’t forget Fort Polk.
The government should only honor those who are perfect. No honoring of womanizers, or those who cuss, or appropriate anothers culture. They must virtue signal perfectly in a way that does not come back to bite anyone.
Maybe not, but when I see what happened to many historical sites such as the Alamo which is but a shell of it’s former self, I think that a cemetary devoted to our honorable dead beats having the site parcelled off bit by bit over time and now covered in concrete and steel.
‘What a dishonor to both sides of the Civil War.’
yes, it’s absolutely absurd that 155 years later these nuts are attempting to apply modern psychology to a former era, a society that was a product of its own time, as all societies are...
‘but in the field he was the Confederacys secret weapon...’
in fact he was a narcissistic numb nuts...
Well, after all, Bergdahl served with “distinction,” according the the NY TIMES fellow lefty Susan Rice.
Good post, FRiend Mutt.
How about a Fort George Henry Thomas?
Best general on either side. Never lost a battle. Creamed the Rebs at Nashville.
The left needs to quit fabricating absurd justifications for spewing its hatred against everything that is American, from the flag to the military and freedom itself. Its time they just admit that they hate us for hates sake and nothing can change that fact.
p
You're the dumbass, not me.
There is a 1950s law that conferred equal veteran status to all who fought in the Confederacy.
The fact that they were U.S. citizens isn't even relevant to the point.
They will acquiesce.
How about Fort Ben Butler?
