After school I would watch Gilligan's Island and Hogan's Heroes. My old man would come home from work and change his socks and shoes in the TV room and set them by the heat register to air out.

He would watch a few minutes of Hogan's Heroes until a commercial came on. As he would walk out he would chuckle and say “Oh those crazy guys!”

It wasn't until I was older that I learned a prison camp wasn't anything like that. My old man, a WWII vet, left me my innocence for a few more years.

In 1974 I saw a Navy training film about poor radio procedure getting a swift boat ambushed and shot up.
