Protestors in Michigan planning to rally at the state Capitol on Thursday are being warned that if they bring firearms to the event they will be arrested.
The warnings come after several members of the groups planning on attending the rally called for the assassination of Governor Gretchen Whitmer which saw one man writing: Can we please just take up a collection for an assassin to put that woman from Michigan down.
On Monday, Whitmer said she respected peoples rights to protest but was becoming increasingly concerned about the violent nature of the comments being made and the extreme rhetoric already connected to Thursdays rally.
She has requested that if people decide to protest that they wear masks and practice social distancing.
On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey said that despite a longstanding rule that Michiganders with permits can bring weapons into the Capitol, anyone brandishing them in such a way as to intimidate or threaten anyone else should be properly handcuffed, properly taken in and fingerprinted.
Law enforcement needs to take this upon their own hands, Shirkey said. When those brandishing activities occur, they need to be addressed and Im calling on the attorney general and the governor to do so with the cooperation of the Michigan State Police.
There have also been suggestions that Michigan State Police will back up the governors orders on social distancing and could hand out legal citations to those breaking guidelines.

Agitprop.
Acting like sheep results in bad optics.
Hmmmmm, I see their point. Course, could have been a false flag, so they’re gonna have to confiscate all guns from her security. And the threat might have come from a cop, so they’re gonna have to leave them at home too. This isn’t going to work, guess we’re going to have to let the citizens exercise their rights. Damn!
Way past time, IMO. Tyrants have been identified in both parties. You're either for the people, or are against us.
On the other hand, if someone would like to produce some really powerful optics, have a person with a Biden flag, and another with a Trump flag, marching arm in arm, preferably with rifles slung across their backs.
He knows them. He just doesn’t care what they are. Nor does he care what the state and federal constitutions say, either.
It utlimately comes down to you only have the rights you demand to have.
It’s more amazing how cheap some peoples’ rights can be bought.
Is this the same state that’s letting criminals out of jail to ‘protect the thugs and killers’ from getting the disease???
The Supreme Court has ruled multiple times that vague language on a law renders it unenforceable.
What the 2020 lockdown taught us is that
1. Politicians have no problem violating the Constitution
2. A large number of cops will follow unconstitutional orders unquestioningly.
3. Many politicians, especially those in deep blue cities and states, will not willingly give you your rights back. You will have to take them back.
This should create a slew of lawsuits. Boy does MI ever have a tyrant running that state right into the ground. What is wrong with those voters - does detroit swing the vote?
No liberal ever created a bogus social media account to make hoax threats...
They are exercising their right to be stupid, and hit themselves in the head, and damage the anti shutdown cause.
All the more reason to show up armed, and in great numbers.
You sound like a gun grabber.
I am a CCW gun owner. I am not stupid, and I don’t hit myself in the face, and complain about the pain.
The shutdown protesters who bring guns, are hurting our cause.
A gun if legal can be worn like someone wears a tattoo. If it bothers you, too bad.
I can understand your point of view, however I guess we have to agree to disagree on this issue.
Because...the first and second amendments.
